Nuno felt wearable making

 What's Mogi expecting?
Yeah, he's expecting two guests coming.
Today I've two students for nuno felt learning.  Normally I do felting in the open yard but today's sun was melting.  Thus home studio today.

The young students wanted to explore the new felting technique - nuno felt, to make  wearables.  After showing my different designs, we started teaching.......
Billy wanted to explore the wonder of seamless and texture,  I taught him the skills of making a little girl dress.  Mandy wanted to make a nuno vest for a little boy.
After hours laying, rubbing and rolling, almost finished.
Final touch of edges of the vest.
 Dress is completed
 Vest is finished as well.
Front of the vest is "cloud & skies", back is "Moon & stars".
Two sides of the dress both with textural surface.
The vest and dress are simply sweet .  Well done boy and girl.

Felted box of poodle

A wool felt box of wenslaydale fleece and hair from poodle.
My sister-in-law has lovely dogs.  This poodle is one of it. I said I can make something with their hair. Just give me a little after cutting.
I used a little wensleydale fleece, merino wool mixed with poodle's brown curly hair to enclose a foam resist.  After 2 layers, wet felting and rolling.....
Here comes the box.....
A one-piece wool felted box with hairy lid.
For keeping or....
with LED lamp  for decoration.
Something made with loved pets is a treasure.

Nuno felt dress

Adorable? Mogi or the little dress?
To keep my creativity juice flowing, I like to play again with nuno felt dress.  I got a scrap of white silk chiffon that's enough for a little girl.
I made it with the base of chiffon. 18-mic merino wool and silk strings. The nuno felt textural surface is what I wanted.
Close up -  chiffon texture and lustrous silk strings.

These silk strings are such good look on white.
The silk strings were wrongly ordered in the first instance. I thought they're soft and ready to use.  When I received the pack I realised they're rough and hard as jute.  After searched internet got the idea to degum it myself then I dyed some with Strobilanthes cusia, some with onion skin.

All look wonderful. Love to play with these strings. Particularly white one doen't need to dye and goes well with anything.
Fun to play and quick to finish this little dress.  No idea what to do with it as I've no little girl around. How big is it? Thought it fits a girl of 1 - 2 years old.
See the proportion with Mogi you'll get it.  Little dresses are always adorable.   This one I'm not going to do with eco print.  Just keep it pure.

Wool felt bracelt tutorial

Simple, ya, it's simple.  Just do it in a leisure time.  This is a one-on-one wool felt bracelet tutorial yesterday I gave to a student at home.

This open-end bracelet is made with copper wire.
First wrap both ends with wool, roll the bamboo mat to enclose the wire with soapy wet merino wool.  Make it felted and hard by pushing the bamboo mat back and forth.  When it's hard, shape it round and embellish with glass beads and stones.
It's rather easy to make a bracelet, only adding the beads takes time.
Embellishment is like icing on the cake.  That will make the bracelet looks pretty.

A few samples for reference.

Wool felt handbag making

During my first 10 days in CA I stayed with my friend Melinda. It's fun to share what we passionate about.  She loves the wool felt handbag I learnt from Nicola Brown.  The brown & white flap style she loves most.  She's quite well considered for the infringement of teachers  techniques though it's really my pleasure to share the fun. She said she just wanted to make the flap a "peacock eye" , so we made the style of this one. We used the red merino wool, white curly fleece and purple dyed chiffon to make the nuno felt flower. She's going to put on a crystal-like eye on it.  The bag has strap, inner pocket and the button loop all made in one go. This is  quite an interesting skill to make it.  I'm so happy to share with like-minded friends whatever I know. Melinda is a good hand of knitting. She made me lots of awesome stuff. One of the things the cowl I'm on in the last picture is truly a pretty accessory for my trip here.  She taught me knitting but I'm too behind. I will surly practise when back home. 〜.〜 。

Treasury box

The long and curly Wenslaydale fleece is my fav. I made a wool felt box with it.
A little treasury box for my goodies.
Put the LED lamps in, it's a glowing box.
Steps of making:
1. It's made with merino wool, Wenslaydale fleece and silk strings.
2. Enclosed the foam resist.
3.  Put the curly fleece on the top wrapped with plastic sheet as not to felt it.
4. Final rolled with a bamboo mat
5. Cut the lid and full it well, then finished.
Finally I embellished with some glass beads.
It looks better, isn't it?
