Nuno felt simply multi-style shawl

Last Sat I went to a wedding banquet. Such a great time for catching up with good mates.  My friend's knitted multi-style shawl inspired my creation.  She lent me the shawl and I made a nuno felt wearable based on the style with a bit change.   A one piece simply multi-style shawl - wrap - scarf - skirt wrap is made........

The top pic is a black knitted shawl my friend lent me for ref.
The other pic is the silk chiffon I made with eco print (rust and leaves) used for this nuno felt base.

I  made the neck (collar) a little cobweb look
After laying merino wool, mulberry silk and some blend silk & wool over the chiffon, then some hundreds back & forth rolling.....
I made this black/grey nuno felt shawl.

A basic shawl with seamless short sleeves and long draping that makes it reversible multi-style wearable art

                                                       A wrap

                                                                         A shawl in different styles

A reversible outfit, one side of merino wool, the other side of earthy eco prints

A little lustre of mulberry silk

Tied with a nuno felt flower brooch make it a skirt wrap

Be it a shawl, a wrap, a skirt, an outfit........ a wearable art piece........
Light and floating in the air.
Sometimes friends catching up really a good inspiration for the making.
Thank you Ada and Lisa for the brilliant idea.

Interaction in Italy

Because of the stunning views of Tuscany and the same passion of a friend, I was here .... in Italy for a 9-day visit.  My last stop in Sarteano was not only brilliant for the tours (last few posts mentioned already) but also for the interaction with my friend JM.  We shared the passion of eco printing and wool felting.
This is the shawl made with both eco printed and nuno felted

Not only a shawl but also a pair of fingerless mittens - a set for the upcoming winter.

We first bundled the crinkle silk chiffon with euc  and dyed in the logwood bath.

Lined to dry the silk and crinkle chiffon.  Afterwards  tore the chiffon to make the texture  for a nuno felt shawl.
Made the nuno felt shawl with chiffon base, layered with merino wool
After layered wool, put on the scraps of squeezed crinkle chiffon, dyed cotton muslins and silk hankies....
scattered a little cotton strings for the embellishments
Wet and rubbed then rolled each for 150 times back & forth
I showed JM the movement of rubbing, rolling and throwing...... all easily
Not more than 2 hours we made the shawl with textural surface
JM said it looks like "Planet", galaxy, the universal.....
Small shawl for the cool winter is made
A pair of mittens will be good as well.  With the same eco printed chiffon, we made the nuno felt mittens with textural embellishment.
Elegant and warm mittens with 3D textures

JM,  you're artistic and I got inspired by your creativity while I shared my skills of eco prints and nuno felt.
Thanks for your hosting and warm hospitality. Our same passion brought us together from two continents. My honor to share and exchange.

"Bits & bobs" + "Not-so-good" = ?

What will the "Bits & Bobs" meets with "Not-so-good"?
Over the years of projects made, there're lots of remnants.
I save all the bits and bobs, trimmings from nuno felt wearable, remnants of wool felt stuff.
Time to clear the stash. I sorted out the remnants and made use of all......
These are the not-so-good natural printed silk fabrics, I used them as backing.
Laid a thin layer of merino wool over the silk fabric and put the trimmings of all these over it.
Trimmings of silk from nuno felt are of assorted natural dye or leaves prints, some of rust dye that has some shades. Plus some wool remnants, prefelt, yarns, raw fleece...... All the leftovers mixed together.
After some "rock n roll", a nuno felt flat sheet is come.
The brown raw fleece of  Bordeleira sheep from my Portugal workshop , the long curly Teeswarer and Wensleydale ...
All together made the rich nun felt texture
The white silk scraps I intended to make the clouds look
A piece of nuno felt mattress
A mattress for my sofa in the studio
A piece as blanket for the child's nap
Wake up from nap, wrap the little body.........
Wrap warmly to watch TV cartoon
Thanks Zeinab and Layla, my studio's neighbor for the shots.
Mogi, "Mum, you forgot me, isn't it for me ?!"
It's now on the sofa bed in my studio where I'm sitting on and writing this blog.
