Such bright prints

The bright red of eucalyptus cinerea is what Windy wants. Yes, we're doing eco print workshop.
Different sorts of euc leaves on silk chiffon. Some were dipped in iron mordant water.

Students each done two pieces, one with kitchen wrap resist, one without so as to have overlapped and string marks.

After two hours boiling, excited to unbundle ........

Bright is bright - "silver dollar" euc leaves are amazing.

Brown, dark, red, green......iron dipped leaves with dark prints, rose leaves remain green.

Helping hands for my captures

Shades of rose leaves
Iron mordant leaves with darker prints
Green rose leaves without iron mordant
Each has two pieces done. String marks on both ends are their expectation.

While boiling the bundles, nuno felt flowers were made.

We used bubble resist with centre holes cut off, so the petals are attached without thread.  A loop at the back is also done in one go.  The brooch goes well with cloths, scarf or handbag
Thanks gals for joining my class in a Sunday afternoon.
Eco printing is such a wonderful thing that we can not expect too much the outcome but each is unique and natural.

Eco print and stitches

Yesterday I stayed in the stadio, just for a relax
overnight doing some stitches. This eco printed fabric with maple leaves I made weeks ago. It's two-fold of same patterns on both sides.

I did randam stitches along the outline of leaves.

Just done one side.

I also done a few pieces of book marks with eucalyptus leaves prints.

Woke up in a fine Sunday morning, I went to the beach outside the studio for a walk.

Crystal clear water but only a few people.

In the beach there're some pretty flowers and plants but I'm not sure if eco prints can be done. Sometimes I tried but outsome is daunting. I just ordered the book "Eco Colour" which is very informative for eco dyeing / print.

In noon time, I was eager to back home for the bag making. Just sewed the bag with lining and inner pocket.

It can be used for carrying small stuff, like my wool and tool kit to the studio.

This is a very simple bag with everything DIY with hands. People asked if I'd sell my stuff, like fabric bags or sorts of wool stuff. Friends also encouraged me to launch my brand. Well, frankly I'm not up to scratch. If chances come I may sell my stuff but now only for leisure or giveaway.

Raise the curtain

Mogi, "I raise the curtain. You see Mum done a door curtain of plant print this weekend."

Yes, this is a one-piece curtain hanging on the glass door to my patio.

Raise the curtain I can see my flowers in the patio. Drape it hubby has the ambience of theatre watching films in.

An outside look from the patio. It's a thin silk fabric so prints are clear on both sides.

Prints are clear when sunlight coming through.

I used some eucalyptus leaves and maple leaves. Bundled and boiled.

It's a one piece fabric. I put leaves on the upper part, half folded it, then left and right, i.e. 3 folds.

Comparison of before and after.
Image through courtesy of Dorie van Dijk
Though my outcome seems good. Indeed I love the effect of the print like this done by renowned fiber artist Dorie of Fiberfusing
The black and brown effect is very outstanding. Have no idea how to make.

Just ordered the book Second Skin by India Flint. Should have it later this week. Hope to dig more info about eco print & dyeing. Will certainly do more experiments.

Mogi, "Mum don't allow me to grasp the flowing curtain, my jaws will scratch it but I'd rather like to grasp the stuff on the shelves !! "

OMG, this guy's naughty and a destroyer. My goodness, nothing broken this time.

Fulfilling holiday from South to North

The festive season is almost over but I'm still on holiday till 2 Jan and really enjoying so much. All days packed with ideas. Have made a few things. This is one of it - a wool felt covered journal with leaves print. The fruitful thing is picked some eucalyptus leaves and maple leaves. Since hooked to fabric arts/crafts, eco-print is my latest hobby. Indeed Hong Kong has many eucalyptus and maples but not allowed to pluck. So I can only pick up on the road. The just fallen leaves by strong wind are treasure.
Please join my scenic rides from the south to the north of Hong Kong these days.

On the chilly Christmas day hubby and I went up the steep trail behind my apartment across the valley down to the other side - Aberdeen.

Up and down for 45-min, it's easy for me as I'm quite fit for hiking!!

After cement pavement then stoned path.

The Aberdeen Reservior (water supply for the south) and the dam.

When there're lots of rains water will flow from the dam now almost draught.

Passed through the reservior we're in Aberdeen waterfront. This narraw channel with busy sampans and fishing boats. Sampans are typical for tourist around the harbour.

We're heading to the Deep Water Bay by the scenic promedade facing the South China Sea.

On the Christmas day people were in high time celebrating with BBQ and dancing on the waterfront.

Next we're in the Repulse Bay where the sand is fine and the beach is a

must-see spot for tourists.

I wrapped my day by taking a 10-min bus ride from Repulse Bay to my Stanley studio. Glittering at dusk.

Next day I went with mother to Yuen Long - the further north of Hong Kong. We strolled along a stream. This area recalled my mother's tough childhood days in the 30's. We passed by a village, there's still a very old typical bricks school but abandoned.

We climbed up this tower to have a bird's eye around.

Yuen Long in the old days was a farmland with rice paddies but now only high rises and no more farming.

The remote visible buildings are of China boundary.

These maple leaves were picked in the Yuen Long Park. I just known there're quite some maple trees in Hong Kong. I can't resist not to do the eco print.

I got a complimentary note pad from hotel. I made a nuno felt white wool then wrapped some maple leaves and eucalyptus leaves. Rolled and steamed. Covered the black cover. Got this look.

Referred by James to the blog of Cassandra of leave print on paper. I followed to make a piece. Result is great and easy. I put the print as the inside cover. This is what I made.

I also have done other piece of wool felt scarf with some leaves print. Effect is yummy. Will share in the next post.
