Nuno felt dress

The nuno felt dress I just made with a designer's leftover.

Indeed this is the leftover of digital printed lace a young fashion designer, Martin used for his project for the recent floating fashion gala.  The lace printed with Chinese characters of the waterway and images of people who lived in that area.  I asked Martin for the piece to try the nuno felt skills. With little Wenslaydale curls I tested.  It works.
In the coming days  I will have private tutelage for the nuno felt garment making. So I made use of the leftover for the sample making.
With the silk chiffon base, some merino wool, little mulberry silk and banana fibre......
A medium dress with cobweb sleeves is made.
Mogi approves it !

Here's the front and back look.

Top of both the front and back are rich textures and drapes well.
Sample of simple yet elegant dress.
This will be my own dress for a special occasion.

Modified another pair of wool felt boots

The woolly boot I made with wet felt technique learnt from Natalya Brashovetska.
The Austrian mountain sheep wool is really so easy to felt with.  I added UK Wensleydale curls for the textures.
Up to the hill where I live......

Lift up and relax over our city view........ Hong Kong is in the sub tropical zone.  We do have winter.   Normally Nov - Feb are cool days, cold below 8C at times.  But this year still not cool even hot.
Come on I need the cold days to cool down.........

Indeed I made the boots last year started with wool layering.  After some rubbing, rolling and fulling......
The hard work is to glue it and hand stitching.
Finished with the slip-in boots with flap.  After a year I thought it's no harm to do something and modify it to another style.  I cut it to have the lace style.

Then punch the eyes for the lace holes each boot with 10 holes.  This is the only part I can't do it myself so it's done in a shop.

Though I don't have the former style of slip-in.  I can make another one later.
The pair now is lace tied I love.

Seasons theme wool felt teapots

Set of my four different teapots.

Spring of green field and sprout popping out
Summer of lavender field
Autumn of birches with crisp yellow leaves
Winter of flame on wood

Since I've done a few wool felt teapots (last post), I wanted to make a season series.
 Added to it is Winter.
Winter is cold, flame is hot.  A burning pot fills a room cozy with steam and hot air.  That's why I think of a burning pot for winter.

I made it with a single enclosed resist. Upper is a teapot and bottom is the burning wood.    I  put some white silk strings and mulberry silk as ashes and smoke.  Put a few onion dyed Teeswater curly fleece and red dyed Wensleydale curls as fire or flame.

Here it comes......The finished look of a teapot on a burning wood

Both sides look

I made the Winter theme of a burning teapot as I remember when I was young we went hiking or wild camps,  we used to carry with us a metal pot to set fire with wood on the rocks to make noodles or rice.

Nowadays we live in the urban and country parks are well built with cement BBQ stoves.  People are not bother to carry lots of stuff for cooking.  We're in Hong Kong with high rises in urban.  Much of Hong Kong's  terrain is hilly and mountainous.  Only 30-min away I'm up from my place in the mountain to have this good view but wildfire is not allowed.

This wool felt teapot is not only an ornament, I want it a  functional storage.

Mogi, "Hmmmmm, a storage for my treats ?!"

A flower holder is a good decoration.

Whatever it serves is fun to make

Of the seasons theme, I like the most is this one first made in Pamela A MacGregor's workshop since the wool used is Finn.  It felts so well.  Quite firm and sturdy.  I just ordered a lot to do more 3D creations.
There're lots of my creations in my facebook page - TerLing Creations.  Please feel free to browse.

Nuno dresses for "Nuna Dolls"

I've done a series of dolls in nuno felt dresses (post here).  Recently I was asked if I can run a workshop for the making.  That made me to do with the eco printed silk scraps in my stash.  Here again my "Nuna" born........    dolls dressed in nuno felted dresses I named them "Nuna".

She walks in lavender field.......

She looks in the South China Sea near my studio.......

How the dolls born?      Here they go......
Paper clay bodies dried
With helping hands of Mogi to paint the eyes, mouth.....
All materials for dress making are ready......
Laid both front and back, front is with more eucalyptus printed scraps and mulberry silk, back is of iron dyed with tie lines on the bottom.  All done with enclosed resist without needle or thread.  Finished then shaped with the body.
Rich texture of the front is what I want

A nun?   No no.... Touch up with hair, arms and hat will be a fair lady.
Hair is Wensleydale curls
Well..... dressed up for the show

Walk in the beach........ with the little one......

More of less the same making for the little one but it has legs
Dancing in the air.....

Rest on the rock
  Size and the look

Making them really takes time. That said running a workshop is not considered for the time being but for my own leisure another one of white dress is in the making.
