Sea inspired creation 靈感自海洋

I'm lucky I live in the area surrounded by ocean with undulating mountains.  My work always inspired by nature.  This wool felt box I made with the inspiration of sea and wave. 

海洋 - 水、 浪給予創作靈感, 香港的山與水美不勝收, 這個赤柱灘頭經常是我流連之地, 閒日更感悠閒. 這個羊毛盒子就是這海浪影子中完成.

The is Stanley where I own a tiny studio. Sometimes after a stuff finished I like to take shots and stroll around in weekdays. Here're a few bays and beaches.  All formed stunning environment.  When I'm there I imagine I'm in somewhere facing the Mediterranean

The day I took the images of the trinket box, I received a parcel from the States.  Judy G of CJStitchingand Blooms was so kind to send me the beautiful things of her handmade crochet bowl, washing cloth, wool batt, yarns, shell, beads.....

The yarns of turquoise are so pretty. I'll definitely do another stuff related to ocean with these wool and yarns.

Logwood dye & plant prints 洋蘇木印染

 

Last Dec I bought the logwood chips from Canada but only tried it yesterday.  I did the dyes and leaves prints on silk fabrics.

兩個月前從加拿大買回來的洋蘇木片昨日才試做印染, 有做單色扎染在絲料上, 也有夾著桉樹葉印, 兩種效果也明顯有色調, 如果加多一些洋蘇木及加熱時間效果會有分別, 容後再試.

 

This piece is bundled with euc leaves and boiled in logwood pot,  two contrast colors.

 

Last week I passed by the wood to have a lunch catch up with ex-colleagues.   Way to my former office is nice harbour view.  Found the blown off or windfalls of euc leaves along is bonus.  Can't resist to experiment with a bundle of leaves on silk.

 

I soaked a table spoon logwood chips in hot water overnight.  Added a tea spoon alum and a litre water.  Simmer the bundle for an hour.

 

Fabric edge in dye pot and tie lines got purple while the inside bundled leaves got brown to orange prints.

 

Since I just wanted to try logwood dye but not expected bold prints, thus simmer an hour only.  The leaves are not strong but still clear.

A light scarf with shades is more than enough, also a good shade for the brat.

 For the first time experiment, color is not strong. Next time I will do more tie dyes to see the contrast.

"Flamenco dancer" making

 

 Hand clapping, percussive footwork and complex hand and body movements are what make Flamenco a difficult but impressive art form. I do not dance but keen on making mixed media figurine with nuno felt costumes.

How to make it? See the observant guy..... he's telling it......

Dipped the cotton stripes in Paverpol liquid, wrapped around the skeleton 

 

Intended to make it a dark beauty but found the face has stains, thus painted it in white aclyric 

 

Dried overnight.  Made the outfits with the "not-so-good" euc leaves printed silk chiffon by nuno felt.  

 

Made a nuno felt top with merino wool.

  

Fit into the body

  

Cut another two pieces of silk chiffon of the table dress shape and do the nuno felt.

  

Done the dress and put into the body

  

Wrapped the glass bottle with same fabric as stand

A day with a Flamenco dancer

 

What is life? Do whatever I like, go wherever I want.....

Over the year, I've been trying sorts of fabric & fibre for my creation. All around wool and silk fabrics but with the introduction of Paverpol by Sharon Gerhart, I almost hooked to the making.  This one with the skeleton of wire and Paverpol, I made the nuno felt dress for the look of a Flamenco dancer.

 

With nuno felt skills I can easily handle layers,  textures and fit to right size.

 

The dress made with my "not-so-good" eucalyptus prints of silk chiffon.  The orange silver dollar color just fine for the dress although red would be perfect.

The size now is bigger and bigger and layers are richer.

Today I took the beauties for a beach walk in the bay of my studio, listening to the echo of

 wave .......

Call it a day with latte and NY cheesecake. 

 

All the dolls I made with nuno felt I call them "Nuna".  This is the latest creation of Paverpol I love most.  Here's another post of detail making.
