Making of natural dyed tunic sets 天然植物印染襯衣製作

This is an easy piece slip tunic set.  The base is just cut two, front and back then lined armholes and neckline.  Actually I printed and dyed this chiffon last year but in stash long as don't know what to do with such light and thin silk chiffon. Also it's not my fav since not red as I wanted.  Until weeks ago I took it out for the cutting to go with other experiment panels.  Intended to make it flowing,  another tunic of panels goes for layered style.

 

Now is May but we're in Hong Kong already into summer.

That day I went to the beach near my studio for the shots. Walking in the hot sands but still cool with the light wear.

 

This is how the prints placed. Mainly of eucalyptus, rose leaf and mandarin leaf. Grey is reaction of tannin and iron.

I made the outer one with open panels so as to see the prints of the inside layer.

 

I wanted the basic layer goes well with other outfits.  Thus I sewed another outfit with my fav lemmon marigolds prints.

 

Front panels are actually mirror prints of left and right.  Just don't want it looks parallel, I sewed one upside down.

                    

Prints more focus on the sleeves. Left photo is alum mordant fabric while the other is madder dyed with tied onion skin prints.

For the making of onion prints I wrapped the skins with fabric and tied with parchment paper.   All my prints of these sets boiled not more than an hour.

 

The set is light and what I want in this summer.

Precious time 珍視的時刻

 

"Sea & Wave" - the theme of the wool felted bottle cover. 

 

 The blue sea with rough wave is inspiration for the making.

與媽媽共度時光, 教她一點手藝創作, 活動記憶, 早上在碼頭看海看浪, 回到工作室就以 "海浪" 作羊毛氈瓶子的創作靈感., 這 "浪花" 瓶子就是她跟我一起完成, 不錯哩 !

Quality time with loved ones is not necessary materials-wise.  Being together to do some interesting things may be a good time. Last week I spent a couple of days with my mum in my studio. In the morning we went to the pier to see the early fresh fish sale then strolled along the promenade and the beach.  From there we picked some fallen nuts.  Those hard pods are nice collection.

My mother knows I always do wool felt stuff but does not know how did I make it. 

I took out the materials for the setting.  Some wool fleece and mulberry silk as well a foam template. She recalled what we saw in the beach and tried to imagine the layout.  She layered the white Icelandic wool then a little blue shades of  merino wool and the curly white fleece.  This is what we called "sea & wave" and this way to stimulate her imagination.

Put it over the rose wine bottle and shaped it with soapy water

 

In a short while it's mounted in a bottle.  This simple and easy craft is good for beginners.

 

A bottle of "Sea&Wave" captured our moments together.  It can be a vase or ......

........a container for the capsules -  the time capsules of our moment.  I'm happy my mother made this, it's a nice keepsake.

Set of elegance

 自上一網誌展示羊毛混絲雪紡裙子, 我收到查詢有關教學, 甚至海外的安排, 因此做了兩件製作, 一小孩一成人的樣品, 我隣家小女孩 Layla還有幾天便離港, 今日趁天氣良好邀請她再為我展現製作, 看她........活潑跳脫, 時而優雅, 太可愛了 !

 

 Since my last post of a girl nuno felt dress, I got some inquiries for teaching.  Before arrangements I made two more styles, one for a girl and one for adult.  Grasped the days before my sweet neighbor Layla leaving for good, I asked her favour to demo.  I also made a head band for the match.  She's gorgeous and showed it vividly and elegantly!

 The white one is dress for a girl of 7 , the grey one behind is adult's tunic.  Both made with nuno felt skills, seamless with sewing with 3D textural surface.

 They're made with chiffon base, silk gauze, merino wool. mulberry silk and my own indigo dyed ramie.

The style is light and airy in summer.

 Without any instructions from me, a potential model of tomorrow demo so well my piece with her own poses. 

 

 Two pieces, one for a girl of 7, the same style, same technique, just enlarge the proportion to make for adult, no matter for a  7, 37 or 47...... style goes well.

 My neighbor expatriate family is moving. I'll miss this sweet soul Layla.  She's gorgeous, naive and energetic. They live next to my studio where I only be there on and off.  They're leaving HK for good. I made this nuno felt dress for her.  Last Sat we took shots around our area that's their last stop in Asia.  Thought this is a nice place in her happy childhood. Let her show you our environment.......

 Making a nuno felt dress like this style is easy.  I just cut a template one third size the actual dress.

 The white silk chiffon is the base.  Made it seamless with little merino wool, mulberry silk, colorful silk scraps to make the nuno felt textural surface.

 That's the simple dress on the pretty little girl.
