The art journal I made with nuno felt cover........

以羊羊混絲及植物印染的藝術小本是我特別喜愛的手作，每一次都是獨一無二，尤其內頁的植物印染不能重複，當我完成了，捧在手上，很有滿足感，要是送岀去也想收件人懂得珍愛，今日就寄出遠在北歐的一位幸運兒 Christina，她在我的Facebook 專頁答對問題。希望這羊毛書皮小手本帶給溫暖！

..........with botanical imprints and blank pages. The art journal is more than 100 pages for writing. 

The purple nuno felt cover is the main part of the art journal. It's the silk chiffon scrap I wrapped with a little logwood chips to boil with alum for a purple dye bath for other fabrics dyeing. Each time I make the purple dye bath in this way, so a few scraps saved and always wanted to make use of every bit.

Base of the cover is Finnish wool and textural surface is the purple chiffon. 

Closure is a wool felted button. Glass beads are embellished for sparkling look.

Some pages with natural contact imprints of maple, ginkgo, oak and a few unknown local species.

This maple is windfall from Korea. A a friend who knows I love to do leaves imprints. She got it from Korea. This one is bold and I love most.

Art journal of 7 signatures with more than 100 pages for whatever purposes.

Be it a diary or sketch book........... it's a nice handmade art journal.

May be a note book for travels......

Handmade art journal 手作美術小本

 The art journal of different wool felt skills and the pages of assorted botanical imprints. 

This is a sample booklet for my workshops of wool felt and natural prints. The pages of assorted leaves prints on various fabrics and papers for reference. The cover is mainly of textural surface.  Most colors are from my natural dyes, some leaves and papers were from friends.  That's why I treasure it.  This collection of art journal I call it "Rhythm of the Ocean".  You'll see some of the pages below.

 The  texture I cut it to show the contrast.

 The back cover of "tied balls". They're dyed scraps of logwood and turmeric.

 The corner is enclosed with shells I picked in the bay near my studio

 The book is enclosed with the "broken pottery" also picked in the bay.  This piece is washed  smooth by the sea.  Believe it was a broken pot used by villagers in the bay.

 The art book pages of different color of natural prints, some direct from leaves, some cut from the scraps I printed and glued on the pages.

 Some pages with chiffon, some with organze, some with knitted jersey.

 The rose leaves with iron mordant on knitted jersey are strong while the direct print on the right paper is not the same.

Endeavor to change - Mustard dye 植物印染衣飾

 

 A botanical imprinted scarf / vest redyed to mustard color.  

This is the piece of prints I endeavor to redye for gradual color.

 I picked the Lagerstroemia Indica with some yellow, red and green.  Hope to get different shades from autumn windfalls.

 I laid the assorted leaves, a few eucalyptus and bundle boiled the silk fabric for 1.5 hours.

This is the picture of the layout and outcome.

 I intended to put some more leaves on the top of the square fabric to make it a vest / scarf, simply lined two arm holes and hemmed. A multi-style of vest of "upside-down".

 Prints of Lagerstroemia Indica are not much different in spite of green or windfalls of yellow . The long and orange prints are eucalyptus.

 With tannin of leaves and iron, the watercolor painterly effect is so pleasing but I sometimes this is only happy accidents.

I thought it's no harm to make mustard color on the lower part.

 So I redyed the fabric in the eco dye pot.

The left one is before and right one is after dyed.

I've to admit the original undyed one is fair enough but keen on experiments I will get the idea of different effect.  

On and off people asked me about eco print / dye.  I'm happy to share common queries.  For my way of getting this mustard green on silk, I use turmeric + logwood + alum. 

 Before putting in the dye pot, I soak the fabric in water with alum.   I soak the logwood chips for a few hours then wrap it with a scrap of fabric, .  For a pot of about 1 L water, I put a teaspoon each of turmeric, logwood and alum.  All together bring to boil then simmer for 10 min.  The longer the stay in the pot the darker the color. 

That's what I got.
