Yellow flower eco printed leather and paper

These days I grasped the blooming of own grown chrysanthemum coronarium to do more experiments, mainly on leather and paper.  In my experience this flower prints so bold and strong on most substrates even with no mordant. Usually I do leather scraps printing. Then make it something functional just like this purse and paper prints on general conquer letter head.

This video shows the making of leather and paper prints then made into purses and art journal.  Just an idea to inspire.
 Finished and approved by Mogi.
My girl showing it......
The day after biking my friend brought me to her field to get some perillae (紫穌葉)folium and  cosmos as well some marigold.

I love so much this sort of flowers, so bright and cheerful color.

Laid out then heated a while .....
Unbundled leather printed with bright flowers and the leaf of perillae folium is striking.
Golden yellow and orange color.......printing from the flowers on suede side of sheep hide.
Marigold (萬壽菊)was soaked in iron solution overnight.  Purple shade from lac dye.

Leather purse made with botanical printing.
Size good as cosmetic bag.
After the printing with perillae folium I took the fresh leftover to make noodle meal.  Noodle in soup with tomato and egg just like the color tone of the printing.  I am pleased.

This is art journal printed with own grown yellow daisy on paper then bound a journal with suede leather printed cover.
  Embellished with wool felt brooch.
Art journal leather cover printed with cosmos and yellow daisy.
 Purple shade from logwood dye.
Can't stop making use of the leather prints.  A few art journals were made.
Printed papers and leather covers all made these diy art journals.
I like to make such "handmade and unique" art books finished with embellishments, a stone or a broken pottery picked in beach or a brooch with own made ceramic leaf.
This is only part of the printed leather scraps made into purses.  Can't remember how many pieces I have made but quite a lot. Friends know me well I seldom sell my purses but do give away on special occasions.  Honestly my sewing skill is not that good.  I sell my skills of eco printing, sometimes teach in workshops.  For the basic eco printing on animal protein substrates and papers I have instant download pdf tutorials in ETSY.  Here's tutorial for fabrics and paper  and this is tutorial for leather prints.

Souvenirs for workshop

I'll be away for teaching natural printing and wool felting in Taiwan in the coming days.  That will be workshops with like-minded friends for another level of creation . A trip brimming with passion is anticipated as some of the students we've met years before.
The journal I made for this trip will be filled with friendship and ideas after the workshop.
Last year Irit Dulman gave me a swatch of pretty eucalyptus buds prints she made on silk jersey.
I tried to source the same fabric and made use the swatch memorable then covered the  journal with it.
After binding I cut around a natural flower print from my other swatch and stitched on the inside cover.

An art journal with a few blank and printed pages ........

flapping in my hand........
....... pages waiting to be filled with words of memories
That will be the souvenir of my journey in Taiwan.

I wanted to make something a touch of sincerity for my students.  I felted some gift strings with prints of eucalyptus leaves.
Strings boiled for an hour.......
Unwrapped with aroma of eucalyptus

Dried quickly
A gift string to tie the materials pack with handmade welcome card

Not long I'll be in Taiwan for the teaching.  I will miss my hiking and biking team members.  Wish I could do biking in Taiwan after the teaching. During the two weeks I will be absent  from blog as my iPhone or iPad do not support the blogspot version. Readers may follow my Facebook or until next time.
Thanks for stopping by.

Art journals making

A pile of art journals telling a story......

Wordless on the books yet beautiful stories they're telling....... all of handmade, natural, one-of-a-kind and touch of love........

Papers with direct contact prints from plants...... That's the story begins.......

Last week I went hiking I collected a few sumac leaves for my fabric prints experiments. Found it's no harm to test on paper as well.
I have my easy own way of paper prints making. Here's the last post about it.
Contact prints of the sumac, weeds and eucalyptus silver dollar on fabric. They are nice prints.

Fresh from the dyeing pot..... sumac and weeds prints on fabric.  Quite impressive purple though no obvious veins details.

Sumac on fabric and different papers with various outcome

I'm pleased with assorted contact prints on various fabrics and papers. So addicted to do sorts of handmade stuff.  This pile of art journals is only a few of the them still with me.  Friends know me well may have one in their hands.  I made the artbooks with coptic binding, some with nuno felted textural covers, some with natural printed fabrics.  Each has a story of making behind.......

Among these.......the dark print of castor oil on cotton particularly reminds me friends in Israel.

This tiny book, the first one I made.  The leaf was picked on the ground near my office 4 years ago.  The nuno felt cover with little of Mogi's hair.

One of the covers made with a friend's wore-out Tee shirt printed with guava leaf.
Bookmark of Hibiscus leaf
This one with the prints on paper and the prints on fabric

Maple from San Francisco on used envelope paper
Tie marks on wool felt cover dyed in eucalyptus pot and purple from logwood dyed scraps
This set is the only one with machine sewed cover and pocket. Prints on cotton with iron soaked leaves.

Pile of art journals closed with own made buttons

Open my books and read all over the stories........ each with different "background"

.........another story of making the sumac prints
The scarf with sumac prints on stretch silk picked on hiking, while the skirt prints with sumac done in Spain.  So....... different stories made........

Read over my stories from this one I first made four years ago......

A chapter closed with the broken porcelain bowl picked in the same bay where I took the shots.
My journey of natural printing from four years ago till now went through a few processes.  Still hooked and hopefully going to develop my way of making.
My instant download pdf tutorial (English version) (Russian version) on ETSY is easy to follow and create unique fabric arts.
