DIY art journal with natural prints

The art journal I made with nuno felt cover........

..........with botanical imprints and blank pages. The art journal is more than 100 pages for writing.

The purple nuno felt cover is the main part of the art journal. It's the silk chiffon scrap I wrapped with a little logwood chips to boil with alum for a purple dye bath for other fabrics dyeing. Each time I make the purple dye bath in this way, so a few scraps saved and always wanted to make use of every bit.

Base of the cover is Finnish wool and textural surface is the purple chiffon.
Closure is a wool felted button. Glass beads are embellished for sparkling look.

Some pages with natural contact imprints of maple, ginkgo, oak and a few unknown local species.

This maple is windfall from Korea. A a friend who knows I love to do leaves imprints. She got it from Korea. This one is bold and I love most.

Art journal of 7 signatures with more than 100 pages for whatever purposes.

Be it a diary or sketch book........... it's a nice handmade art journal.

May be a note book for travels......

Now I decided to give it away to someone who may find it special.
This is a giveaway for the lucky one who left comments on my Facebook  page for the gimmick. Christina, this is on the way to you.... in the Scandinavian country. Wish you find it warm in your coming long winter!

Blue and purple from the same green leaves

Purple tone from the same green leaves........
I made the imprints from the same green leaves to purple in my lazy way........

Traditional indigo blue from sorts of plants like Strobilantes by making vat but I only have some leaves barely for imprints.
Two years ago I was fortunate to be invited to join the French expert  Michel Garcia's workshop in Hong Kong (last post). The indigo blue vat was made from the local Strobilantes,  the exact name I can't recall.  After the event the farm owner was so kind to give me a small plant to grow.
Now it's thriving and I've been doing experiments for a few times in the non-traditional way.
This is the species of Strobilantes.  If anyone knows the exact name I'm glad to know.
Usually I only do fermentation then soak the fabric for sometime to get the greenish blue
Sometimes do pounding for the marks on cotton.
This day hit my mind to try boiling, to my surprise I got pink-purple.
Here're the "Before & After" images of the two printed fabrics.
I washed with soap immediately, no color change, no breeding.  The same strong.

The dark prints are leaves direct on fabric while the pale from mirror prints,.  Both are bold.
Even the overlapped prints are quite impressive
 The two pieces are silk

 This is the mirror print
 Just wrap for a look
The other piece I made it into a blouse
Simply two waist lines and waist tie for the easy styles

Two pieces of purple shades botanical imprints from Strobilantes

Strobilantes are magic plant for me.  I don't have much to make the indigo vat, I just take a few leaves to print, I'm lazy but content with the outcome.

A bag of pretty memory

Purple, pink and black is the combination I love to do with wool felt. Today I finished this nuno felt bag. Just wanted to take some outside pictures. Coincidentally found the path lined with brushes of bougainvillea - this purple flowers are eye-catching.
Now that we're into fall, leaves are not yet much turned to yellow or fallen instead this sort of flowers are blooming.

Flowers not only lined the path, also in the beach.
This is the bay I usually take pictures with my items. Dusk is romantic.
This pot of bougainvillea just reminded me my days in Greece years ago with hubby. Islands of Greece are mostly rough mountains but this kind of flowers are blooming. Always such a very pretty view with the white houses in Greece.

Our winter is short but quite chilly at times. Forecast we'll have a rather freezing time this year. So I'll make a few more wool felt bags with different style and textures. This one the strap is detachable.

Materials are merino wool, mulberry silk, Wensleydale fleece and my own dyed chiffon scraps for the flowers.

Love the color - outstanding with white. Thought this is good for casual as well for night.
