Fibre arts creation 纖維創作

Year 2020 is difficult for all of us.  We used to travel for teaching or learning overseas but all schedules hold off or cancelled. People in lockdown have to find something engaged. I need to review what I have been doing these years. Though I addicted to eco printing I find wool felting, my initial encountered fibre arts, is versatile in my creation. I'm back to felting table  these days. This is a knitted wool jersey I sewed it a raglan tunic with only neckline wool felted. 

這年不能遠行，日子還是要過，待家也未有閒着，拿來一片針織羊毛料做衣裳，領圍則以羊毛混纖完成，這純白上衣襯上手作植物印染皮腰帶及羊毛混纖手袋簡約自然。

 

 White is pure and goes well with botanical eco printed leather belt and accompanied with  nuno felted purse.  I like the set but can't resist to do eco printing on it just with basic skills and simple eucalyptus layout.   Here come the result.......

就是按奈不着那細柔的羊毛布料印上桉葉的效果，我急不及待，白色的衣裳馬上與桉葉結合成另一欵襯衣，明亮的白中有橙紅。

Simply with eucalyptus leaves and a few strokes of casaurina.

 Just don't want to waste the remnant I printed it the same tone. Looks like set of tunic and mask.

 

Another fibre creation is wool felt purse.

  

Weather is becoming cool and wool felted purse is a warm accessory. Made this seamless purse with inner pocket.  Both sides embellished with lace and yarns with nuno felt technique.

為機構再續纖維藝術教學，我又重拾羊毛氈創作，就這麼又做了兩件無縫手包，一件蕾𢇁混線，另一件後期再做植物印染。

Strolling in my area wrapped in eco prints. Sounds no one recognises me.

Thought Mogi approves it and likes sitting in the shade with fragrance of eucalyptus.

 

The tunic in white with wool felt neckline I have only dressed once for shooting. Now eucalyptus printed and will be my casual winter top, bright color makes me cheerful.  

Nuno felt "earthy" purse 羊毛混纖包包

 

The "earthy tone" purse I made with nuno felt skill.

Textures of the flap is a silk fabric with natural prints. 

以一塊不甚漂亮的植物印染實驗布料作為這個羊毛混纖包包, 這「泥土味」質感總算有點特別吧!

 

Indeed the swatch of eco prints I done with some leaves was not quite good to my expectation (the left image).  Then I overprinted it with some more leaves with a rusty iron pipe.  After an hour boiling....... OMG, it's even worse, very muddy (the right image). 

To make use of it I tried to do a nuno felt purse with the swatch in order to have the textures on the flap.

But...... the darker prints with much iron do not felt well.  Thought the fabric was too much oxidized  with iron ?  No idea.  Experts may tell me why.

 I've to do a few stitches to fix the dark prints. 

Almost finished but with the closure......

 

I attached my handmade ceramic buttons. 

  
A purse flap with the "earthy textures" on the surface and the "coblestone" on the other side. 
I stitched the loops on both sides for a detachable long strap.

Painted nuno felted purse 畫畫小手袋

 

Just made a nuno felted purse. A piece goes with the nuno felt dress. Isn't it a perfect match?

 

 

 I like to make something of practical and multi-styled. 

The purse strap is removable.  The back is made with a "tube" to insert the strap for waist bag.

 

 Indeed purple is acrylic I painted on a chiffon scrap.
Then made the nuno felt with Finn wool.

 

I put a resist inside for the pocket and made the closure in one off.

 The other chiffon scrap I made the strap.

 Textural surface on the flap is what I wanted.

Beaded closure is for easy insert.

 A little shoulder purse with detachable strap with knots on both ends.

To make a waist purse, simply insert the strap in the back tube and tie it.

 I wanted the detachable strap as it can be used as a waist tie as well.

 

Enough room of the purse with inner pocket for keys, iPhone and a wallet.

 Find it a  perfect set with a nuno felt dress.

 With our Chinese New Year approaching, is it more appropriate for a little girl's red packet purse?

One-on-one wool felt purse teaching 羊毛手袋製作教授

 

 Into hot summer but still I have enthusiastic student wanted to learn the wool felt purse making. If time allows I'd like to do one-on-one teaching of wool stuff.  This double-flap shoulder bag with 3D nuno felt flowers and inner pocket all made in one piece done by my student J. I enjoyed personal workshop as I can concentrate on her work and have a nice interaction not only about wool felt, we chatted about our 4-legged pals. 

雨下的星期天. 熱衷手工藝的學生 J 來單獨跟我學做羊毛手袋, 輕鬆的幾小時她完成了這個風格手袋.

Final embellished with logwood dyed silk scraps and silk hankies.

 

Do the rubbing and rolling....

 After some time of "rock n' roll", cut along the top edge for the flaps opening. 

Some more rubbing, fulling.......

     

 The finished purse with two flaps, 3D nuno felt flower and the one piece strap handle.
