Botanical imprinted leather and the purses

There are lots of different types of hides in the market suitable for botanical printing. Since I don't know or even the shop I usually source supply does not know how the leathers were tanned, printing outcome varies with different sorts of plants.  I like to try imprints with my technique, particularly on sheep leather.  This one with cochinael background just printed and sewed into a messenger bag.

I made it box-sided for more room.  Detachable strap with buttons fixed inside and flap embellished with seashell.
Part of the printings with own grown strobilantes.
These days I was quite free and sewed a few purses.

In case people who are new to botanical imprinted leather, here's a video clip of the piece I just done.
Most of my techniques are more or less the same but with various plants and dyes for different result.  This is a leather purse of two sides printed with lemmon marigolds, willow and ginkgo.

Another sheep skin with more flower prints.  The main flower is gerbra.

Close up of the prints of both sides.

This is a two-sided purse.

Since the experiment swatches are not big and I just made it a small purse size as iPad but all with inner pocket and lined with eco printed fabric.
This iPad size purse with detachable braid strap.

My cat Mogi always curious for what I have been making. I really can't remember how many pieces I have mafe.

These are some of my purses, most were gaven away.  I like to do printing experiment and make use of the swatches to purses.  I sell my experiments of botanical imprints technique.  Here's my pdf instant download tutorial you may like to have a browse.

Eco printed leather purse making

This botanical printed leather purse with gerbra and wild flowers is one of my favorites.  It's simple and light. Either be a shoulder or waist purse.

The video shows a little of leather prints making
I used just a small piece of sheep leather cut from a big piece as I find smaller scraps are more easy to handle and I can do more experiments with different sizes.
The purse is of three parts with a flap, front and back.
After all pieces cut I started machine sewing.
People asked me to share the making but I am no good in measurement and always do the simple cutting then sewed.  As for purse with zipper I usually started sewing zipper first similar like this.
After the main parts assembled, put on strap and ready to use.....

A light shoulder purse
With my hands free I'm strolling leisurely in town.

I can't recall how many pieces of leather prints I've made into purses since I like to do experiments for my tutorial writing. My way of leather prints is simple yet fabulous.  You may like to browse the instant download pdf tutorial on my on line shop.

Botanical imprints on leather

Mogi is always in a comfort zone.  He finds safe and pampered. He is my best creative director and spokesperson.  He draws eye balls.  Such a brat makes me happy.  He played with autumn windfalls while I played magic with those plants around.

"See what mum has done other than fabric prints........"
A bag of botanical imprints from handles to body, front and back are leather.  Inner lining also of botanical prints.
This is the layout of plants on leather which I sewed into the bag.  The two main flowers are gerbra (非洲菊), one is fresh and the other is the second time of using.  The middle one is Rhododendron hubrida

After a while steaming beautiful and delicate prints of gerbra on leather.  This is one of the leather bundles with lac background.
Blueish purple from begonia heracleifolia
Gerbra is the ever pretty prints on leather. Ever used for the second time is so clean and clear.
Unwrapping is excited

The left image is fresh print of Gerbra and the left one is the second time printing, looks delicate but a bit smaller on the second time.
Mounted to dry to make it flat and smooth.
Before & After of the leather prints

Two pieces of the leather prints of gerbra and other plants.
I cut the right size to sew with other cochinael dyed leather for the bag.

The other part of the leather sewed with other previously prune leaf printed scrap to make a purse.

This is the purse one side printed with prune leaves I done in France workshop for the demo. I like the very strong prints of prune.
