Tutorial of Leather-Linen-Paper botanical imprints making

I am happy that during this critical time I still quite creative in natural printing and just consolidated my years hard work and combined a written tutorial of enhanced botanical imprints on substrates of leather, blended linen silk and paper.

My new version of botanical imprints is mainly of flower prints on leather with mordant to enhance in-depth and vivid of natural prints.  I have the last version of botanical imprints on leather which do not need mordant it's the basic imprints technique and only focus on leather printing.  This new listed instant download tutorial is not only leather imprints with my way of mordant, also sporadically mention of blended linen silk and the ideas of combo leather & linen fashion accessories creation.  Last but not least is the bonus of paper prints making.  So this is my latest version of botanical imprints with leather-linen-paper inspiring ideas of bounty from nature.

E-book of 64 A4 size pages with more than 250 colorful images and steps of making prints from mordant and "before & after" images for reference.

Can't imagine such vivid prints of flowers leaving striking marks on leather.
Always peeling off is the exciting moment.

Flower and leaf are good pair.
Shades of yellow on dark background.

Gerbra is such delicate printing.

Second part of the tutorial is blended linen silk mordant and sample prints making. You'll see the strong to light gradient color.

I will show the sample making of  fashion accessory of this combo leather-linen creation.

It's so nice to make prints with own grown flowers. A purse I made with the hydrangea my husband planted for me.

Various botanical printed leather purses 多花款的皮革植物印染

It's a difficult time for most people these days for the lockdown.  Me too no good for group biking or hiking but with limit plants around my apartment I can still engage in sorts of creation with my workmate Mogi.  My friends find him a superstar and a good company to show my works.  He's such a lovely brat.  He never finds boring and so attached to me.
Well, I just done a piece of leather printing and going to do another one he immediately grasped it, quite territorial.
I do botanical printing with seasonal flowers.  When there're special species I keen on trying.  These days I tested the new found passiflora coccinea, the red flowers. Combined with others I made some sample scraps on leather.
Passiflora coccinea prints so nice on leather with different color shades from red to brown.  Rational behind I have no idea.  It must be due to tanning of leather done in the factory. Can't rule out the chemical treatment.

Another seasonal flower is chrysanthemum coronarium I grown from the seeds Israel master Irit Dulman gave me.  I love this flower so much.  It prints strong yellow.

Start the making is to wet the leather and roll up.
After heating pigment of plants released on leather.

Now that the swatches are good to make into something functional.  So I cut it to make a purse, not one piece but so many after numerous experiments.
Purses with natural dyes and prints.

Wallet made from one folding piece.
A small one for keys or cards.

A wallet or a waist purse.

A few more for cosmetic or whatever purposes.

Some of the leather cases made these days..
You will see the fun of peeling off the flowers.  Interested?  You may like to view the instant download pdf tutorial from my on line shop.

Botanical leather imprints testing 植物印染皮革試驗

These days I have done a few more botanical imprints mainly with gerbra flowers and sewed into pouches.
I can't recall how many pieces of leather imprints I have done and made into purses. A few of my signatures below.......
They're made with sheep leather and pig leather.  Some are stiff some are so soft.
It's not easy to buy appropriate leathers for botanical imprints locally.  Usually I source raw sheep/lamb leathers.  Today just got two pieces of quite soft, thin and white dyed sheep skin.  I don't know how it was tanned and was puzzled if it work but good price only about 3.5 euro.  No harm to try.  With the flowers bought I immediately done testing with simple layout.
Mogi, my cat is always my helping hand.
"Hmmm.....mum it's fine for bundling and cooking....."
I was expecting the flower prints looks like the previous one done with impressive outcome, particular the gerbra printed so nice.

Opened it with curiosity but I was not pleased and the leather shrank almost half the original size and the flower printed just purple without "in-depth" look and other plants even without color.
Anyway I mounted it to air dry.
The more it's getting dry the more it's stiff.

Though not a successful printing I wanted to make it functional. I cut it to make a few pouches.
Zipper, lining label..... all in hand.
Leather is a bit stiff so I cut and sew it while it's not all dried. Otherwise it's hard for machine sewing.

It's done. Prints of both sides.

Another one of both sides

This one is disaster, all dark without much prints.         Still made it into a purse.

Printing on leather is challenging and outcome depends much on choice of leather. However we can do trials and even make the swatches into something useful.
That's enough for a few pieces.  Mogi was so nice to follow me from day to night......
He says "Goodnight....."
Oh, it's my space. His territorial behave always occupies it !

Few of the pouches of different prints and shades.  I like to do small swatches prints as the size just right to make it as make up pouch or whatever use.
Can I imagine just with natural dyes and ingredients I can make such colorful botanical imprints on leather with different outcome?

Yes, I can make it ....
Last but not least I have an instant download pdf tutorial for the botanical imprints making.  It's simple if you can source the right leather.  You may like to have a look on my ETSY.
