Red -Tote bag from eco prints

My last post mentioned about the prints on the new flannel I tested on. The fabric takes bold prints, particularly the red of euc silver dollar.

The dog and cat silhouette I further enhanced the outline by a sharpie.  Cat looks like a cat but a dog...... only the owner knows it is, I'm afraid !
The prints on a small flannel is a test but turn it into something practical would be great.
So I used the different cotton scraps from stash made the back and the lining.  The straps are also eco prints of another testing on flannel.
A tote bag with two inner pocket of same red color but different pattern.
The tote bag is big enough and strong enough to hold two thick books.  Whatever purposes the prints turned into a practical item is what I wanted.
 What do you think Mogi?
Mogi, "hmmmmmmm.......good shade for me!"
This is how it was made from scratch to finished.
Red is the tone I love from eco print.  It's still mystery for me why euc  silver dollar gives such bright ad bold red.  No idea, if someone knows and share would be great.

Yesterday was a sunny Sunday.  I went to my studio and picked some casaurina and the dried cones.  Will do some testing on dry cones to see the outcome.
On my way passing the park, the red running kids caught my sight. There was a rugby event for the families.
Red is thriving......
 Mogi, " have a good day !"

Eco-printed fall themed scarf

We're still in the hot summer but doing something with fall theme is the right time.  This is the botanical printed silk scarf with windfalls scattered..........
A closer look......... with your imagination.........
 Cows.....
Cats........
Cows and cats........ yap..... roaming cows and cats in the field.
The scarf I made with botanical prints of assorted eucalyptus windfalls.

A few cut the shapes of cows and cats.  That's my theme of fall this year.

I got some queries about my eco print. I've my way of working.  I use hard paper cores instead of wood sticks . I cut the milk box then roll it firm and wrap with heat resist kitchen cling. To make it longer I will connect two pieces in the middle with rubber band.  I roll up fabric with it and tie first with thick rubber bands followed by sports shoes laces.  Bend  the bundle and tie it firm.  This way the fabric contact is very close with leaves and my tiny used rice cooker accommodates a few bundles.  I usually boil for 1.5 - 2 hours.  The heat resist clings,  rubber bands and paper cores are reusable.
Botanical printing is very regionalism.  Some leaves give good prints some are not.  With the combination of assorted leaves and skills, a bright tone scarf can still be made.

Leaves painting tote bags

Playing with botanical prints with different leaves, I painted the scenery......

Assorted leaves give shades but I wanted it with "living  things".
Cut the cow shape on a leaf......
A Mogi shape on another leaf
I set four pieces scenery "picture", each with different leaves incl. rose and assorted euc as well pines.  Two with cat shapes and two with cows.

I cut cow shapes on euc and "India rubber" leaves .
After all set on the silk fabrics then bundle boiled for 1.5 hours in clear water.
Cows of different leaves but only the eucalyptus is bold and brown I wanted.

No harm, the other painting with cats are not bad.
Each of the printing are two folded, i.e. mirror print.
Got four pieces of the experiments of "scenery painting", I can't wait to do the tote bags with them. Grasped the cotton fabric, cut it, sewed it..... all done in the weekend......
 with his supervision
The four tote bags, 2-sided and reversible. Same size, each 36 cm x 37cm  with lining and 2 internal pockets.

Tote bags for grocery,  book carrier or whatever purposes.

Love the cats, love the cows. They're my creation inspiration. I recalled the day I visited a friend in Lantau (大嶼山 水口村), there're lots of wild cows.  I just love them roaming  (last post).  Coming Friday I'll go hiking with a group and will be there .  Hope to see some cows again.
Right after I posted the printing on facebook, a friend Lisa already bought this bag because she loves cats.  Thanks Lisa for making this "fast moving item"

"Mum, it's midnight, I'm tired.  ZZzzzzzzzz"
Until next time.

Scarf transformed from error

I was intended to make an eco-printed scarf. Somehow it turned out unsuccessful. I transformed it to acrylic painting. Recently I tried to use different plants for dyeing but I didn't aware it's no good on nylon.

Only very light stains I got. That's a very good experiment I learnt. I know now cotton or silk fabric are more appropriate for such dyeing or prints.

I don't want to waste the failed scarf. I transformed it to acylic painting.

This turned out to a bright and washable scarf.

Goes with my onion skins dyed nuno felt top ?!

My Mogi said "Mum, waste not, want not. We can make use of every piece. You made it and I love it !"
