All those handmade flowers printed purses

So far I've done numerous experiments of botanical imprints on fabrics like wool, silk, viscose and all other cellulose materials.  But now keen on leather printing.  This is the one just done with all the flowers and leaves gathered around my area even the yellow flowers of Israel wild chrysanthemums that the seeds my master instructor Irit Dulman gave me to grow in Hong Kong.
The Israel typical chrysanthemums are blooming and insects love them.

I will have hundreds of this flower to do my favourite prints.
There're other wild flowers on the path. Can't resist !
To make use the swatches of prints, I sewed into something functional.  Here are the purses of linen, cotton, wool flannel and leather....... all with natural pigments of botanical imprints.

This is the prints on linen with own grown yellow flowers and other picked foliages.

Here's the lamb skin, leather prints "Before & After".
Close up of the prints of cosmos, Chinese willows and others.
My favourite part of the prints of different flowers and the leaf of passion fruit.
Batch of all leather prints with botanical imprints.

Batch of fabric prints with assorted leaves and indigo dyed, The black ones are of iron and pomegrate mordant.
These are wool flannel, grey background is reaction of tannin.  Small purses of assorted eucalyptus without any mordant.
The strong and bold prints of eucalyptus are Mogi's fav?
The soft lamb skin printed with leaves of morning glory and cosmos.  Both sides of leather, the other side of grey blue I left it as it is.
The purses I have made so far are not intented for selling but mostly for friends who appreciate my work.  Honestly my sewing skills are not that good.  This one alredy in my friend's hands.
This is the wool flanel printed in Irit Dulman's workshop in Israel.
This is linen just done the mordant testing with the Israel yellow flowers I grown myself.  It works !
The tote bag lined with the old table cloth my mother used before.

My mother passed away for two years.  I got the vintage table cloth my family used to have meals when we visited her.  I done prints then made it for the tote bag lining.
 This is reversible.
Tote bag with lining of vintage table cloth is way of upcycling and keepsake for loved family.
This will definitely for my own use.

Mogi, "mum what to do with this?  Smells something of animal?"

The lambskin leather prints with the flowers I got from friend's house plus my own grown ones is made into a purse and in the hands of my friend. The making is first mordant the leather, it's already very soft and thin like fabric. Then rolled as bundle to steam in low heat for only 45 min. I smooth the surface by ironing then cut the purse pattern with a clear transparent sheet over it.  Sewed the zipper with lining.  That's it.

Just like to experiment and hope to explore the alchemy of botanical imprints

Video of the printing then the purses
How I love my area where I can do biking and get inspired.  This is rural of Hong Kong.

Natural printing bond with France

In May when I was in Sijean, France. My friends Helene and Brigitte were so nice to spare some time with me. Helene was kind to model the garments I just made in Spain with natural prints and dyes, last post. She's interested in such unique design and making technique. I said I would make a top for her with some local leaves. When I back home I immediately practised the skills learnt from Irit Dulman the natural prints and Revital Avidar the garment design.
As Helene likes simple and not those orange or red so I used a few buttonwood (梧桐) from France and Loropetalum Chinense (紅彩木) locally mainly on the upper part design.
After 1.5 hours boiling the fabric printed then sewed.

This is the big buttonwood in the town of Sijean.  The first morning three of us strolling in the little tranquil town. Prints of the leaf from this sort of tree

I designed it the raglan top.  After all done I took photos on my girl before sending the parcel out. Prints mainly around collar and shoulders while sleeves with dyes and stains of cochinael.

Back is also with little green leaves from France collected along the canal

A silk top all with natural prints/dyes is now with bella Helene

I am happy that it fits Helene

Eco printed tote bag with "grumpy" for Brigitte

My last stay in France was memorable with Helene and Brigitte. Both are my good friends. Of course not to forget also something I made for Brigitte. It's a tote bag printed with eucalyptus, casaurina and leaf cut into cat and dog silhouette.

Brigitte's tote bag with two compartments and lining.  Both sides printed. Size is quite right for her "grumpy" or a wine carrier

"Before & After" of the prints on wool flannel for the tote bag

The natural printed silk top looks good on my oriental girl and the French bella.
I like the chance of practise.
Thank you girls for the modeling.

Upcycled bag

Some people never care about what they have. Stuff are easy come, easy go.  However the earth is getting sick with lots waste disposal. I just like to make the tote bag and the chair (last post) longer life cycle ......

I've a friend who already have some beautiful bags and purses still treasures the small cotton tote bag I made for her years ago. It's washed out and worn out.  She doesn't want to dispose it.  I said let me do something to make it usable.

Before amended it, the acrylic painting faded out and holes on the bottom of both sides

I repainted the scenery with fresh acrylic

All the broken holes amended with french knots - that is the easy way for me to do these stitches
The small holes are amended with french knots in red thread then painted again
The other side are the same stitches on the holes

To make it stronger I lined the interior with my eco dyed scraps, sewed the inside pocket and a separate pouch..
Put the folded tote bag inside the pouch when the tote bag is not in use
A big tote bag carrying the mini one........

The "Before and After" look of side one
The "Before and After" look of side two
The upcycled tote bag of both sides.  This will be stronger and last longer.

Poppies and country scenery are always my fav painting, on canvas, cotton tote bag or set of ceramic.  Just love the bright and cheerful red color.
