Leather printing with real plants皮革上的植物印染

 

It's interesting to make a leather purse from scratch even printed the leather with real plants.  Make own designed signature case is wonderful. I printed the raw lamb leather with own grown flowers together with some picked on ground.

 

I made two cross shoulder purses with the printed leather.  Just a scrap and made two. I find it more easy to sew with lined canvas. You will see how they're made. Both the front and the back with printed leather.

 

 It's roomy for accessories, key, wallet goodies etc.

These are the two leather purses I recently made and that's my favourite printing.

Key success is to mordant the leather.  First to wet the leather, soak in mordant solution. Iron, alum …..are the main ingredients but of course with other substances too. Leaves painting tote bags 植物印畫布袋製作

 

Playing with botanical prints with different leaves, I painted the scenery...... 

 

 Assorted leaves give shades but I wanted it with "living  things".

 Cut the cow shape on a leaf......

 I set four pieces scenery "picture", each with different leaves incl. rose and assorted euc as well pines.  Two with cat shapes and two with cows.

 I cut cow shapes on euc and "India rubber" leaves .

 

After all set on the silk fabrics then bundle boiled for 1.5 hours in clear water.

 

 Cows of different leaves but only the eucalyptus is bold and brown I wanted.

  

 No harm, the other painting with cats are not bad.

 Each of the printing are two folded, i.e. mirror print. 

 Got four pieces of the experiments of "scenery painting", I can't wait to do the tote bags with them. Grasped the cotton fabric, cut it, sewed it..... all done in the weekend......

 Love the cats, love the cows. They're my creation inspiration. I recalled the day I visited a friend in Lantau (大嶼山 水口村), there're lots of wild cows.  I just love them roaming  (last post).  Coming Friday I'll go hiking with a group and will be there .  Hope to see some cows again.

Eco printed fabric bag 植物印染布袋

 

A bag specially made for my good friend, iL.

Last time we met I saw her still using the fabric bag I made her years ago but it's wore out. Happy that she used it till wore out, that means she liked it. Making a bag takes me time. In the market one can buy the mass production at very cheap price. I gave some friends my handmade bags but I know some may not have put to use. They may not know how much effort I've put on making OOAK.   Now I will only give to someone who really appreciates my work. 

 

The bag I made with the sample prints of pines and euc on  "boiled wool".  

 

I made use of the strips to put on the fabric bag, that's the theme.

Yellow to golden euc I picked in the train station and dark prints of pines I picked in my mother's area.

 

I sewed the bag with the fabric leftover of last projects.   It's a mid-night.

The bag is double-layer with inner pocket. Straps are long enough to put on shoulder.  Bag size is just a A4 fit with box base.
