Fibre art workshops

 

Gradually we're picking up and back to track.  Fibre arts workshops were held recently.   A botanical printing workshop for the family groups was held in 甲乙丙工作坊. As it's an introduction and for the fun of parents and kids participation I just taught the basic mordant printing on silk with those plants from wild and florist also kitchen waste, the onion skins.  In three hours laying, boiling and chatting they opened the bundles with unexpected outcome.  The photos speak themselves........

The other day I have a family with children coming in my place for wool felt making and eco printing experiments.

It's their first time encountered wool felt.  They found it interesting with wool wrapped soap and wool can "stick" together.

  

They made the felted soaps and coasters.

Other than wool felting they made a small piece of eco printing.

Kids are imaginative.  Their works are nice.

In an afternoon of chatting, eating and playing with my cat Mogi, they made the colorful creation.

 

 Mogi is so adorable and quite welcome the kids even let them cuddling.

"Dressed" the plant, walked in the bush 穿著叢林中

   

The wool flannel I printed last is now turned into a vest - reversible with 2-sided prints. External is wool flannel with botanical imprints while the lining is blended cotton/silk prints and dyed in cochineal which I'm not quite pleased with.

It's a Friday I used to do hiking but it's raining and gloomy thus skipped it. Instead "dressed in plants" I walked in the abundant house with bush behind my area. 

I've a passion of plants, whenever I walked in the bush I would think if those plants give prints?  That's why I can't help stop doing experiments.  Have done so so many swatches! The only way is to make them into wearable. 

           Eucalyptus Cinerea is always my fav for bold prints.

 The outsider piece I don't have large enough wool fabric thus connected both sides with silk prints

 

The lining is fine with one whole piece

 

 

The upper part is Loropetalum Chinense (purple) and  Limonium

  

 I'm not by profession a fashion designer. That's the simple vest I can do with the template measured and given by Tatiana Sheverda in her workshop.  

 

If it's not tuned into garment, may be leave it as a hanging, anyway.

Souvenir for a special one 給好友的紀念品

 

These years I seldom buy souvenirs abroad for my friends but making something for my good friends on special occasions instead.

 Last year when I was in Israel for Irit Dulman's workshop I printed a few pieces with local plants. One of it was a light knitted silk jersey. The plants used were casaurina, oak, rose leaves and eucalyptus.

 In Israel we collected eucalyptus leaves in the park for the workshop with Irit

Rather than just a scarf, recently I made it into a simple tunic

Folded in two, sewed the shoulders and sides. 

 

Voila, a simple tunic -  I call it "Silver Grey".

                 Last time when I've a chat with my good friend Amy.

 we talked about eco prints.  I  said I was so addicted to experiments but pity that in Hong Kong not all my friends like the "muddy or imperfect prints".  I asked Amy if I made something for her if she would wear, she said she would.

So this piece is special for my friend Amy.
