Botanical printing workshop by the sea

Captured by the sea, printed by nature.  Today’s workshop was filled with creativity, community, and the beautiful element of surprise that comes with botanical printing. From gathering leaves to unrolling these gorgeous, vibrant textiles, everyone created a true masterpiece. Thank you to this lovely group for bringing such wonderful energy to the seaside club today!

See the works they printed. Images speak themselves

We started in such a beautiful spot facing the mountain ranges
From scouring to layout
We enjoy the ambiance
See the effect with only iron and alum combination, they make the colour tone of yellowish gold and dark hues
We use quite a few species of eucalypus to bring the colour of yellowish orange, red, onion skins, vitex, mayobalan, casaurina, gauva ... Tannin and iron reaction is impressive.
We’ve a great time in the lush. Thank you all for joining.

Taiwan botanical printing teaching

Last month I have a great time in Taiwan for a private fibre art teaching. We started printing on fabric to paper and leather as well doing wool felt then printing and made it purses. It's a nice experiment with local plants gathered in Taiwan and we're exploring some special techniques to make a series of colourful creation.

This simple basic wool scarf printing with little alum and iron to have two shades.
Linen silk with little logwood background
Paper printing is nice on water colour paper
Logwood plays wonderful magic

A piece of lamb leather with assorted leaves
Shibori skill on rayon
After making wool felt we printed with eculyptus then sewed zippers to make them purses.
Papers are made into art books.
Such nice time we work together.
Arrays of colourful fibre creation in a week with creative students.

Fibre art workshops

Gradually we're picking up and back to track.  Fibre arts workshops were held recently.   A botanical printing workshop for the family groups was held in 甲乙丙工作坊. As it's an introduction and for the fun of parents and kids participation I just taught the basic mordant printing on silk with those plants from wild and florist also kitchen waste, the onion skins.  In three hours laying, boiling and chatting they opened the bundles with unexpected outcome.  The photos speak themselves........

Onion skins, ferns, vegetable flowers.......
assorted eucalyptus...... with participants' own ideas of placing.
Leaves both sides will have different outcome.  See how the difference.
 Opening bundles is always excited.
Shades of orange and yellow from the same plant is interesting. It's effect of mordant.
Assorted eucalyptus from red, orange to brown.
The roaming cats.

Eucalyptus and rose leaves
The families are happy with their works.

The other day I have a family with children coming in my place for wool felt making and eco printing experiments.
It's their first time encountered wool felt.  They found it interesting with wool wrapped soap and wool can "stick" together.

They made the felted soaps and coasters.
Other than wool felting they made a small piece of eco printing.
Kids are imaginative.  Their works are nice.

In an afternoon of chatting, eating and playing with my cat Mogi, they made the colorful creation.

Mogi is so adorable and quite welcome the kids even let them cuddling.
If you find the botanical printing interesting and like to know the making. My on line shop ETSY TerLing Creations  has instant download tutorial, basic one and enhanced one.
Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day.
