Little nuno felt dresses

Recently I'm really into nuno felt dress making. This little dress is for my nephew's little daughter.
With silk chiffon base, some silk scraps and super fine merino, a little dress is made in two hours.

The textural effect is what I wanted.  This theme I call it "flame" as it's colorful.

Maker and the little darling are in the same tone of clothing.
This one all in white
 Crinkle chiffon surface
Looks like a flower girl's dress.
Indeed it's very mini, fits a 2-year old girl only.   Fun to play nuno felt dresses.  Next will be a "gown of rose garden".  A bigger project to show off.....

Nuno felt summer dress

Busy bee and productive farmer, that's my daughter Jas and me.
I'm really into nuno felt.  The wearables need a good feature to perform.  Jas is my exclusive model.
She's too busy I have to make appointment. May Day we family had a ride around my studio for the shots of the nuno felt dress just made.
The one piece dress with one short sleeve.
Main design is textural surface in the front. Lustrous look of silk strings and merino blended silk.
Though it's May still chilly by the sea.  Girl jumped to keep warm.
Patient Jas wrapped with a nuno felt scarf to let me take a few more shots.
The scarf also made with merino and silk strings.  Simple and soft.
Crinkle and textural surface with chiffon, lustrous silk strings and mulberry silk.
Made inside out
Project finished after a few hours
I'm going to do another nuno felt gown of pastel green, a long one.  That would suit in summer.  Who said wool can only be worn in winter? Wool felt can only be done in cool days?  365 days are my woolly days.
Thanks girl for showing my pieces !

Eco print of reversible nuno felt top

Mogi, "Hmmmm, mum added some color on white! How it looks? Let's see below...."
I mentioned in my last post about this reversible nuno felt top to take the risk making the reverse side with eco prints.
Rolled the bundle with three sorts of eucalyptus leaves and boiled for 1.5 hours.

Back with prints of green, orange and brown as well tie marks.
All are eucalyptus leaves, the round ones are euc globulus from the States.
I do not keen on regular or parallel in the front, so placed the leaves in this way half in the front and back. Some with brown as they're dipped in iron mordant water.
These group of euc leaves I plucked near my studio come out green.

After boiled the original pleated side with nuno textural ruffles has not much change, only tie marks on the bottom that's what I wanted.
The reverse side with bright prints is also what I hoped.
Comparison of before and after, only a bit yellow and tie marks.  So no destroy to the original.
It's earthy, it's organic, it's subtle..... whatever it is.  It is one of it's kind. I can do nothing the same.
A piece of two sides, in and out.
So this is a two-sided nuno felt wool top. I have to admit that I love more the original (left) on my daughter. It looks "pure" and ruffles are "fluffy".
The right one (on myself) after tight rolled and boiled, ruffles like "pleated skirt" look less soft.  Anyway, my experiments for the reversible wearable.

Nuno felt reversible top

It come to my mind why not make a nuno felt top with the other side to try eco print.  This is what I made.  Front look and reverse.
Back and reverse
Materials are lace for neckline, chiffon scraps of my eucalyptus eco prints, merino wool and own degummed mulberry silk.
For the textural surface I put the chiffon scraps and scattered mulberry silk on the front.
"Oh, my supervisor... Is it alright?"

I've to concentrate on my work....... but....
This little thing ..... what drew your attention?  Indeed he always interrupts my attention with funny acts.
How sweet Mogi you keep me company.  Anyway after almost 4 hours I finished it.
A nuno felt top with chiffon base, chiffon textural surface, lace neckline and manipulated with little raw Teeswater fleece on shoulders.
Back look
Close up of textural surface
It's my expectation
White of reverse is fine.  It's good enough as it is.  To make eco print I may take the risk to have a mess as outcome may not be as expected but I decided to do  with the eucalyptus globulus from my US nice friend Melinda.
After boiling for 1.5 hours the bundle got dark brown. Who knows how it looks?
A mess? Unexpected?
Reveal until next post.

What customers' expectation

I was asked to do three pieces of nuno felt shawls by lady C. Instantly I was chuffed for my works caught attention.  This way of making garments is still new in Hong Kong.   Glad that people find it unique and want it. My girl Jasmine showed it right after all finished.  Thought to myself it's good.
The shawls were made by laying merino wool and some mulberry silk over the chiffon base.
After rubbing, rolling for some 200 times back & forth.  Followed by light motions of throwing and "moving" around - the effortless action I like to do.
Within hours it come the shawl.
Another piece is in brown tone
My girl was fond of it and asked me to do her a piece.  Never say no to my darling girl or shout at my sweet Mogi.
Mogi, "how soft it is?

Totally made 4 during the weekend.   The last one for Jas...
Wrap in different styles, upside-down or inside-out with different shades of black, grey and white.....

Girl's naughty look.
I was happy to have done the commision and ready to go for the buyer lady C.
These  shawls are what I supposed good for the winter. Lady C was nice and said they're warm enough and she loved all BUT if they're thinner would be best also for handbag carrying.  I was a bit uneasy for a while since they're not what I assume all right. I said I could do another piece with just little scattered wool which will be light and thin.

That night I made a lighter one and given to lady C the following morning. She said it's excatly what she wanted.  I intended this is free for her but she's kind and  insisted on paying
 all.
I seldom sell my items, not to mention for a commission.  It's not that easy to meet others expectation.  Quite some pressure.  Anyway, that's a good start for me.
