Eco prints on paper

I keen on experimenting different paper prints. Here are a few of the outcome

Just grasped the paper index dividers which I do not need for my box file. Prints of the top image is not bad.
My friend Zeinad gave me a few delicate handmade papers from India with sort of hair, may be horse hair? Prints with euc and rose leaves are quite impressed.
Rose leaf never made me disappointed.

Even on a recycled music paper from my girl is very strong.

Left is a used paper envelope, right is the paper index divider

My way of making paper prints is easy with my handy tools.
I stacked a batch of paper with leaves sandwiched. Tied tightly with the racks (a simple aluminum steaming rack common in Chinese cooking). That's exactly the size of my used rice cooker (use the old one that will never used for cooking meal !). Boiled for an hour, here it comes.......
I made some papers with different prints, always have  approved by this brat !
An artbook with eco prints of  paper and silk fabric together with nuno felted cover with own made ceramic buttons.  Thought this is my "signature" artbook with the crafty ideas I've made so far .

"Mum, you need to fine tune or crop it."
"Yes, Mogi , the making of artbook is to follow......"
Until next time.

Art book of nuno felt and eco print

Ever since encountered wool felt, I've further explored the versatility of 3D nuno felt.  An art book of nuno felt cover thus made.  This is a special gift for an artistic friend who lives in the fragrance of lavender and inspires me lots of creations.  This art book is for the friend we known for decades who likes to write me letters in fountain pen........

An art book with  natural leaves prints and enclosed with a ceramic button

Leaves prints on recycled papers and hand bounded.

3D nuno felt texture looks organic.  The fabric is my natural prints with euc leaves and dyed in pots of iron and barks.

Book cover of nuno felt with wool and mulberry silk strings degummed by myself.

And a little ceramic button made by me

Inside wool cover with leaves prints.

A bookmark made with nuno felt and blanket stitched.

Some papers with leaves prints..... rose leaves...

Eucalyptus leaves...

Liquidamber from Argentina friend Delia G...

Rose leaves plus eucalyptus leaves.... green and brown shades...

An art book made with all the skills I learnt.

An art journal of 10 signatures, 60 papers, i.e. 10 pages, size of 17cm x 12 cm.  Though not all printed pages are good, it's made with heart and a touch of love to a special friend who will be visiting Hong Kong shortly.

A special gift for the friend to jot down the visit, a diary or whatever purposes. ......

This is how I made it.
Laid out the wool, put over mulberry silk strings and dyed silk fabric.  After felted, put the leaves and bundled boiled for 1.5 hours.  Cut the discarded envelopes, sandwiched the leaves for the flat set and boiled for 1.5 hours (boiled together with wool felted cover and other stuff to save energy). Bound it a journal.  That's it.

A special gift for my great friend.  Thrilled for the visit in two months.

Eco print all purpose cards

My travels to Portugal and Spain were fabulous.  Ever since I encountered eco print these years, I like to pick some windfalls for my experiments.  Although some people advocate regionalism, there's no harm to do windfalls from other regions as a keepsake or something special.
Upon return last week I couldn't wait to try the paper prints thus made the cards.
A set of leaves printed cards.  How did they make?
Ah ha.........
I picked some windfalls from my friend's house some euc leaves and some unknown leaves in Malaga.

Just dipped the leaves in water and laid over papers
I made a stack of 10-fold 15 x 10cm papers, covered and clipped the top & back with rusted iron clippers.

Boiled in a rice cooker with water and some vinegar
Opened it after 1.5 hours boiling
Prints of dried euc leaves are quite strong and papers in a range of greys, charcoals and blacks with the effect of rusty water.
Among all I love this most, the unknown leaves.  The leaf shapes are pretty with rust deposit prints.
I picked a few to make the cards.
Each card with a blank paper inserted and tied with thread
The all purpose cards are made.

Eco print workshop for special student

Being an amateur eco printer, I never thought of drawing overseas students. How glad that my facebook friend Meg's so passionate about the style of my prints/dyes and flown from Taiwan to learn from me.  My honor to share with like-minded. We have a 2-day intensive workshop to do experiments of assorted prints, dyes and make an eco print journal.
Meg and I've never met but only via facebook.  On the first day we met and worked, we knew we've same thinking and she picks up very quickly.
The first piece we done a silk fabric with  euc leaves, rose leaves and maple leaves.  In order to show Meg the shades, some leaves with iron mordant some without.
In the meantime we made the iron mordant for her future use.
We tested the iron mordant and got what we wanted - shades below.
Rose leaves dark with iron mordant.
Some euc leaves brown or darker with iron mordant.
Paper prints done for making a journal.
Wool felt journal cover
Dyed in euc pot and bundled with euc prints, all done in the same time.
The string marks and white space intended to make.
Paper prints and wool felt cover to be binded.
Day 2 the eco print wool felt journal was made.
Enclosed with my handmade ceramic button.
Meg made a nuno felt shawl with long curly fleece.  She put a little euc leaves over it and bundle dyed in onion pot.   It's bright.  Meg may find it too eye-catching.
The lustrous long fleece is shining brown.
What's that bundle? Eager to see the outcome.......
It's the nuno felt wool top Meg made.  Prints got some bright orange  but rose leaves are dark.  Reverse side with some brown /grey.
Still a good test on her first eco print trial.
"Mogi, do you approve this?"
We made prints with alum in order to get yellowish. We got it, a little pale yellow /green of rose leaves and the soft orange of euc cinerea.  Wonderful to have spotty outlines.
Pale with alum and dark with iron.
Euc cinerea is always a magic in printing.
Mogi, "mun's student is so talented and creative. You're wonderful to have her around".
"Yes, I'm so pleased."
Fabulous works by Meg.
Among all,  this soft chiffon scarf she found impressive.
All ready to pack home.
In the 2-day intensive workshop we still have an hour walk behind my apartment to see the city view.  Thanks to my hubby who watched the boiling pots.
Tomorrow we two couples will have a day out in the island south.  Wish the weather will be good to allow us to have a glimpse of our stunning island.
