Another new toy 又一新玩意 ?

Mogi, "I got a new toy !"

That's mine, I got a new toy. Just bought this iPad for light travel. While I put it on the desk, Mogi is too naughty to scratch on it. Judy rang my bell I've to make a wool felt cover to protect it.

That's why I made it.


I laid the wool on a resist and cut the prefelt to do the cat shape. Then put on flowers to do the rest . All done by wet felt.

I love cats. In the past I made some ceramics....... Dish of cat, cat holders, cat box, cat tea set. Black and white cats are my favour.

Right after I made the pouch, Mogi immediate occupied it.

He finds comfortable laying on any flat object, no matter a file, a book or a box.

Years ago I bought a door stopper of this black cat from London.

My cat Tiger thought this stranger was a real intruder. Stupid Tiger. Oh, poor Tiger. He's only 4.5 years old and left us all in a sudden. We miss him.

Mogi also feels a bit lonely. Though we love cats. We still hesitate for another one yet. Keeping a cat is a life commitment. They bring us loads of fun and laugh but some behaviors we've to tolorate. (A secret, a shame... he pees in the dining room at times recently !! We do not know why ) I better make something of cats just for pleasure...... a ceramic or a wool felt cat is rather easy to care.

My cup of tea - marriage of wool and ceramics 陶瓷與羊毛的結合

Haven’t done ceramics for long since hooked to wool. Just made this tea set with the very soft and hard media. This is my cup of tea though rough.

I’m not a perfectionism – want to pursuit yet no way in ceramics. When I make something for myself I’m not demanding. Something imperfect is not bad. Any look or shape has it’s own identity. The fact is I can’t handle well throwing nor delicate. Hubby said this is my excuse for not doing well. He knows I’m impatient.

I love wool felt and do not want to drop ceramic. This way I can make the marriage with both.

Years ago I’d a dream of owning a little cottage with a kiln in the backyard to do ceramics. The front cafe to serve my homemade cakes with my dishes and mugs. Beside is a showcase of my ceramic stuff. People can stay as long as they like, for reading, chatting or sort of. It’s only a dream !!!! Though I don't have my dreamt cottage with a kiln, I can still make ceramics in the pottery studio and do my wool stuff in my own tiny studio. After a session of wool creation, nothing is relaxing then having a break with my own made tea set. A piece of Scottish bun, some wallnuts, dried raisins and a piece of dark chocolate is really a treat to myself.

Found wool and ceramics are good mixed-media, I can make dolls heads, pictures, pins....., sorts of combinations.
Now I’m really into wool felt. My blogger Andrea said “Art is like your boyfriend – if you don’t spend time with it, it’s not going to work out”. It’s true the more we interact the more love and fun we discover. In reality I’m too indulged in my own “hobby lovers” !!
This day after a light breakfast with hubby we went to the beach for "treasure hunting".

A fruitfull day, I got some eucalyptus leaves and the main thing was the rusty iron. I wanted to do eco-print with rusty irons. They were wrapped and steamed for my silk dyeing. It's my first time to use rusty irons with other leaves.

Currently I'm on business trip in The Philippines. Business travel is no fun and definitely not my cup of tea. I'm eager to see the outcome when I back in the weekend and will share how they look like on my coming blog.

Do I need to put on shoes as well? Oh..., you're gorgeous to show up now. I usually do wool felt but doing something with our pets is wonderful. This box is made with furry ball Bonnie. I asked my friend Heidi to save some hair she combed Bonnie and made something with it.

Her hair is dark grey so I put some other wool on it to make it more colorful, also embellished with some crystal stones and glass beads. Cat's hair is easily felted and quite firm after dried. You see it can be a holder. I call it a "treasure box". Hope Heidi loves it.

Tiger is 3 years old. He's the big brother. When he's young he's quite adventurous and curious on everything. He's sturdy and quite alertive. Whenever he hears some strange sounds he'd jump up and scares.

Last year when the new Chincillar joined our family, Tiger was so jealous and acts as big brother. There're some rows luckily no serious flighting.

See..... they're so sweet at times.

Mogi has territorial behavior though he's the new comer. Wherever Tiger sleeps he wants to occupy it. This fluffy ball has the outlook of gentle and tidy but he unwillingly lets us comb hair, cut nails or clean ear. He likes sleeping on our lap that's different from Tiger.
Well, let me show you how to make a felted box.

First to lay the hair over a paper template (resist), cover with some colorful wool, wet it with luke soapy water and wrap the seams around the template. Turn it over and lay the hair to wrap wholely around the template. Cover with a tulle and put some soapy water to do the felting. Cut the center for the lid. Do some running stitches around the cutted margin just not to have a loose margin end. Do the fulling and make it round shape.

Embellished it with a felted flower it'll look brighter. That's it.

Having pets in a house is lively and making something with it is fun.
