Wool felt earthy vase 羊毛氈花瓶

Though I immersed so much in eco printing experiments, I can't ignore my fond of wool felt. Took some time to do a wool felt vase this weekend with scraps of my natural printed swatches, I made this one with flat enclosed resist.
Finished it with shots near my studio, listening to the wave........
縱然沉醉植物印染創作, 我不忘對羊毛氈的熱愛, 這日弄一點植物染的碎料與羊毛混混, 做了這瓶子, 在工作室不遠處聽看  「浪 ● 花 」

The wool batt used is Austrian mountain sheep. It's so perfect for 3D creation. Very easy felt and sturdy.  Enclosed the whole resist template, I put 2 layers only with intention to have a side ridge thus a bit extended the side template.

Both sides with my silk scraps of eco prints, one side with a little Romney and Wenslaydale wool fleece for curly look.  This way of nuno felt is to add some textures on the surface.

After rubbing and rolling, cut open the bottle neck, removed the template and inserted a jam jar inside to full the bottle shape. Left the glass jar inside as water holder.

In an hour the vase finished and the flowers breathing in the seashore near my studio.

One side with ridge is to make it not the ordinary one.

Crazy mum and the fluffy

"Mum's so crazy, she's crazy about fleece, she's crazy to do felting in the hot days"
Yes, we're into summer but I still crazy about wool felt. Being fibre fanatic wool is my second skin. Like my hair and skin,  wool follows me life long. Last weekend my studio neighbour Z. got some raw fleece from NZ,  freshly shorn from lamb and sheep !

We played a sample with all those 5 breeds.  They're so beautiful, curly and sheen.

Not long we felted a piece, so soft and easy felt except for the black one.  I'm not sure what are the species, one should be Romney.

My neighbour's so kind to give me a lot. I'm crazy about raw fleece especially the curly ones.  Immediately I made in the studio a wall hanging with all those fleece.

1) I laid them carefully with the tips up, in the middle left the flat blank white but scattered some mulberry silk.
2)Turned it over and layered a thin wool
3) Covered with scraps of chiffon as backing and light draping.
4)  I made it in the both room since it's muddy.

Less then 1.5 hours finished with the sheen look.
I hang it in the studio.  It looks fine,
Like playing color with euc. Why not put some color on it ?
I dipped the leaves in vinegar, rolled up the bundle and boiled for 1.5 hours.
"Hmmmm, what's the smell?"
"Pleasant? Yap, I love the heavenly smell."
Color added. Leaves sheen with mulberry silk .

The "Before and After" wall hanging.
Indeed I also like the original but keen on experiment of natural prints.

Be it a wall hanging, a table runner or a shoulder wrap in a cold winter.
A bit color is fresh in a gloomy winter.
"Oh mum it's already summer here.  Are you crazy to wrap with all those fluffy?"
Well, refresh with the cool mint in the hot summer.  This is the display of art walk in Stanley where my little studio located.

Nuno felt brooch

It's spring, a season of color and light accessories go with costume. These are what I made today - the nuno felt brooches. I used the broken pieces of chiffon and did the running stitches along the margins then pulled it together.

In between the chiffon, I placed some wool, i.e. some on the bottom, some on the top. Last fixed it with thread.

Same steps as wet felting, covered it with a tulle and the hands moving motion made it entangled.

That's it. Goes with my spring suit. Isn't it ?

I'm not boring because of you 你給我精彩每一天

Yesterday Mr Postman handed me a package from USA. I was so surprised and delighted to have received a beautiful pack of gifts from Melinda, my bloggie from CA. She's so nice to have thought of me when she attended the annual Fabric Convention and bought me the Wensleydale and Romney wool which are gorgeous for my creations. I can't wait to try it today. I made a bag (a vessel or a light holder, you name it).
I just love the wool, it's texture and curely look. Made this pot shape rounded with the Wensleydale and my own made ceramic button which matches with the shape.
The pack of colorful wool comes with a meaningful card and a pretty flower pin. Melinda you're so sweet ! I love all and big hug to you.

I'm not boring because of you, all my friends from different regions.
The stuff I just made can be a LED lamp, a purse or a bag for toilette. With this additional fringe of Wensleydale is icing on the cake, at least I thought it is !
THANK YOU Melinda and YOU for stopping by.
