Thrilled to learn advance natural printing

Set of natural printed garment with purses just made.   I love the prints and the new tone totally different from what I used to make.  I don't know how to do the prints.  Prints on the fabrics were made in March when I was in Israel.
It is advance technique of natural 3D prints (#3DPrintRD) of textile surface design.  When I visited the master Irit Dulman in Israel she was so generous to show me how to lay plants for the design.  When I opened the bundles I was so excited for the outcome.

Each piece is so beautiful with different shades.  Irit was so generous to give me such presents of prints making while I stayed in good friend Betty's house.

I was home with the beautiful prints and happy to make use of all the panels.  Then I made a tunic with the raglan sleeves pattern from Revital Avidar.

A simple tunic I modified a bit with folded sleeves and side pockets.
I love every inch of the fabric,  each leaf or flower prints is so unique from Israel.

The flower looks almost popped up
I used up every single scrap of the fabric.  Just don't want to throw away the remnants, I made them into two purses.

This is logwood dyed with discharge prints of oxalis, both side of the prints.

I made the purses with lining and pocket compartment with the swatches of curtains.  The detachable strap is from daughter's used purse.
Part of the prints from those plants in Israel.
I printed the fabric in Israel, made the garment in Hong Kong and will dress it in Holland.

This video is where I am in Hong Kong.  Tomorrow I will be off to Holland to learn from master Irit Dulman for the advance prints surface design. I will be out of blogging till July.  Please come back I will share with you my days in Holland.

Mix & Match natural printed outfit

Have done so many panels of prints experiments.  Some good some so so but just wanted to make use of every single piece I sewed together with the pattern learnt from Rivital Avidar with little modified. Of course some printing skills from Irit Dulman.  I like the high slits of traditional Vietnamese costume. This outfit is made with 6 panels cut from the width of different fabrics. They're sorts of silk and wool cotton blend also done in different techniques of natural prints. So far it is the outfit I like most. You'll see details of close look.

The outfit with all-side prints and two wooden buttons.  The back prints with eucalyptus and Lagerstroemia speciosa as well sumac.

The main part of front is eucalyptus and papaya with madder. Sleeve blue from indigo.

"Before and After" of the front prints

That's the casual outfit

Just fine in a breezy winter here in Hong Kong
So the outfit I made with natural prints of eucalyptus, rose & leaf, sumac, casaurina, Lagerstroemia speciosa, papaya leaf and natural dyes of tannin, madder and indigo.
In a nutshell this is the signature garment with all the techniques I learnt or developed myself so far.

Some people asked me the tutorial printing of this garment.  As I said it's the combination of a few skills from basic to advanced that takes some time to achieve.  Sorry for not able to show all techniques right now.  However a part of this outfit, i.e. the eucalyptus on the front and the sleeve I have detailed pdf tutorial on my ETSY.  Here's the link of shopping.

Dress of contact prints with leaves

A dress I made with the leaf prints done in Spain "Textile con Alma" workshop. Just like the shape of geranium leaf and the ground control skill learnt from Irit Dulman.

I recalled the mornings I walked up the lane leading to the village Azana where the workshop held.  The lane lined with pretty flowers and the impressive geranium.

I picked a few for the contact prints samples making in the workshop. Such bold and clear prints of the geranium on silk.
I've been doing experiments on assorted fabrics with different techniques thus lots of samples made. Just grab a piece to make something.........
The panels were just right to make a dress.  With Revital Avidar's raglan pattern I cut and sewed the dress.

Geranium and walnut leaves on the front and sleeve

While the back is with random prints and both sides with viscose cotton of same tone dyed in tree barks.

It's interesting and fun to explore natural prints. Irit Dulman is awesome for the skills. Her facebook page may have workshop schedules.

I also like Revital's pattern of raglan dress. It's simple and easy to make. Don't have to sew zipper, no button and easy pulling in.

My simple dress for the breezy autumn on any occassions.

Hobbies creations

A friend asked how come I have lots creations even I'm occupied in weekly hiking and cycling. I said I have 36 hours a day! Indeed while enjoying outdoor activities I got inspirations for my creations particularly my works are related to nature and landscape. This tunic made just after hiking which reminded my childhood with sister.

This is the team we do cycling on Saturdays.

Our dynamic team started after breakfast........
riding in the field
Sometimes routes are quite rough in the bushes

These days lots fallen flowers on the route. Picked some to do experiments.

With the Lagerstroemia indica (紫薇) and little yellow flowers I done the fabric testing.
Last Friday our hiking in the mountain where I spent my childhood.
After heavy rain the Shing Mun reservoir almost filled up.
The undulating mountain reminds our good old days. After the hiking my sister and I spent some more time in the village where our old house located though in ruin.  We can still identified whose houses were nearby and the days of playing in the stream. The bushes then were small are now forests.  No more paddy fields but high rises.  The river is stone-lined and linked with bridge. Part of the village developed into town in decades. Changes and changes while time flies........
On the route found a blown off nest, branches and fallen flowers due to strong typhoon.
Sad for the birds lost the shelter.   Pity to leave the neat nest on the ground, I picked a few leaves and fragile fallen flowers filled in the nest........I told my sister I would do something with the plants for her.
Back home with the handful plants I laid out on white woollen fabric then boiled 1.5 hours as learnt from Irit Dulman's techniques.
Impressive prints on fabric.... Lagerstroemia indica (紫薇) is always my favourite, though not much color the petals with spots and the shape are bold.

To make the background a bit green rather than pale I dipped  in indigo then boiled in turmeric. With the basic pattern from Revital Avidar I made the tunic.

Both sides with prints and green shades on the bottom
 Sleeve with Lagerstroemia indica (紫薇)
A simple tunic for my sister, made with memories recalled our naive childhood and ........

the nest rest in my garden branch for some more days
