Mending by wool

The day I went to the shop to source silk fabrics, I found the very fine knitted wool.  So delicate and soft but I'm not sure if it's good for botanical imprints.  It's not cheap compare with silk I usually buy.  While hesitated the owner Mrs Chow said she got a piece with a little tatter that she could offer me special price.  I found it's only minor flaw I may use wool to mend it. So the 2-yd knitted wool went into the cooker for my experiment.
This is the piece I printed with assorted eucalyptus and rose leaves.  The shawl came out nice and the amended part just icing on the cake.

I intentionally to put the leaves only on the upper and bottom with the middle blank.
The left pic is the tattered part.  I put some wool over and underneath the wool fabric.  After rubbing and it's felted.
I put the leaves over the wool fabric with rose petals on the wool felted spot.
The upper part sandwiched with leaves so the "collar" both sides with prints.
The bundle was blended tightly.  I like to blend it and pull the tie string around firmly. The main reason is I boil it in my small electric cooker which barely fit this big round bundle.
Unwrapped after some time of boiling.  The eaves prints and hue of iron mordant.  The wool felted spot just got little purple from rose petals
It's not bad with wool mending.
Fingers crossed if to cut  two arm holes to make a vest.
Most likely leave it as it is.  This kind of knitted wool is so soft,  no crease, light and drapes well.
It takes up pigment and not necessary hemmed.
Such a good buy and experiment on new fabric.

Sneak peek for workshop

Invited by the Hong Kong Design Institute to run the nuno felt workshop in Sept, I've to experiment the fabrics and make these samples.
This workshop  is the first ever organised by the Institute. Wet wool felt is not quite popular in Hong Kong as most of the year is hot and humid but we do have a few cool and chilly months.  The nuno felt tecniques can be applied to make all-season wearable art.  A lightweight chiffon summer top is airy and a scarf with a little bit raw fleece is warm enough in the winter days.  My nuno felt workshop highlights are  textural surface, eco and using minimal tools.  A summer chiffon top is going to be taught.
This is made of crinkle chiffon, wool connected waistlines and rope. No sewing is required.
Textural surface is what I wanted.  The brownish are my own dyed silk scraps with leaves.

This scarf base is chiffon, also the brownish silk is own dyed.
With a little bit raw fleece of white and brown, this shawl is warm enough.

The eco print silk scraps and natural wool are matching the theme of "Eco".
My Ooak -   "one of a kind" piece.
Nuno felt is new to Hong Kong, I hope this will bring out the creativity of the versatile medium of wool to make wearable art.

My exclusive model of nuno felt dresses

Friends asked me what am I up to. I always said hooked with nuno felt. After Vilte's workshop in Truus's studio, I almost addicted every other weekend doing experiment with nuno felt. Have made a few pieces and need a perfect fit to demonstrate . My girl Jasmine Y. is second to none. On a fine day today with hubby we've taken some pictures.

Who said wool is only for winter and preception is thick ? No, a nuno felt dress can be a summer casual or elegant wear.

It' light and just like dancing in the air.
This is inspired by Vilte's wedding wear. It can be a fairly lady's little dress.

This piece was a classwork made in Truss's studio with Vilte's instruction.

.

I modified it after the workshop to fit my daughter.

Three different styles with different textures.

The middle one with nuno felt shawl.

Mother and daughter. My top is also a nuno felt eco-dyed with
eucalyptus barks.

Close up of a nuno felt shawl. I'm really into wool felt particularly nuno felt. Vilte's works are inspiring. I strongly recommend her workshops. There're two in Sept. in Holland, details here.
