Eco prints shades

"Good shades..... Yes, mum wanted to make shades, but color of leaves."

Intended to make shades of leaves, I used different steps of iron mordant and different sorts of leaves.  Some leaves dipped in iron water, some without.  So I got the outcome like this.
The more iron the leaves got, the darker they're.
The round silver eucalyptus cinerea is of typical reddish.  A little of it makes the pattern bright.
Rose leaves are rich in tannin and love iron thus prints are bold.
The dried oak leave is clear.
Outlines of rose leaves
Another sort of euc leaves.
Big or small rose leaves are good for prints.  They make vivid marks.

Comparison of before and after

Still in the stage of experiments so I only made small pieces on gorgette silk.
Soft it is, of color and material.

A weighty book with heavy interest

How excited today I received the ordered book "Second Skin"! Can't wait to say how delighted I am holding it and reading it. Every page is informative. Front and back covers are compelling. The book is not only of eco prints but also of caring for textiles and clothing as well the history of plant dyeing/ printing.

I'll certainly digest and dig more info to pursuit my interests in this area. To explore more than my limit knowledge.....

It's a heavy book with 284 pages of beautiful printing.

Getting cold, keep me warm.

It's getting cold these days. I made a nuno felt cape (wrap) with my dyed eco prints on silk. This is a reversible wrap with different styles.
This side of light look.

This side is with more wool and bright.

Thank you for Melinda who sent me this beautiful Wenslaydale fleece from the States.
The wrap is made of this silk printed with eucalpytus leaves, some merino wool, Wenslaydale fleece and mulkberry silk. Chiffon is the base.
I laid some merino wool on the chiffon base, put some Wenslaydale fleece and scattered some mulkberry silk over it. Wet it then turned it over.
I placed the leaves printed chiffon over the chiffon base and laid some merino wool in between. Wet it and rolled it.
Finished look of this side with my ceramic birdie pin on. Both sides look. Front look like a coat.
Light and easy to put on. Back look like a wrap.
A wrap around
Warm with mittens as a set.

Creativity is doing whatsoever enjoying

Can't believe this kind of eucalyptus leave can do the bright red

dyeing. I tried a few kinds of euc leaves. All those were of long and narraw can only give brownish green. I bought these fresh round ones in a florist. I bundled with a silk chiffon and just steamed for 30-min without any mordants. Let it stay in the pot for a few hours it come out so strong and bold prints. I'm happy with this. Prints on a white chiffon is sharp and airy.

I want an eco dyed fabric not only draped like this. I will play my magic to make it a unique
piece with my nuno felt skill. Hope to show you soon.

"Creativity means loving whatsoever you want to do - enjoying it, as a gift of existence" - someone's quote. Creating is such a beautiful thing if you wish to. I'm so honored to have featured in Creating Success Around the World Knowing you is a great pleasure. We can inspire each other. I'd like to invite you to share my path of creating in the featured blog .

Thanks Janelle for the interview. Happy creating !

Extra day off to make eco-print

Today Hong Kong is hit by a typhoon and we don't have to work. It's not my expectation to have any day off brought by typhoon as it has impact to normal business and schedule, not to mention it may have caused devastation. Fortunately we don't have severe damages. I took the time to finish a piece of rust printed scarf.

The day before I found my hubby's tools kit a rust spanner. Oh, I have the treasure at my finger tip I didn't aware of ! I wrapped it with the eucalyptus dyed silk and boiled for a while. Let it remained overnight. The outcome is very strong.

Today I made both ends of fringes with nuno felt skill, then embellished with glass beads to have the sparkling look. Mogi is a quality controller. Good, he finds my piece passed.
Close up of the prints. Imagine what it looks? Rust has the effect of a little purple. Quite interesting.
This is only experiment so I didn't make it longer but it still can be wrapped in style, I suppose.
We're into fall soon. This airy scarf can be a wrap in a breezy night. I'm obessed in eco-print and will do some more. Hope you don't find overwhelmed.

Scarf transformed from error

I was intended to make an eco-printed scarf. Somehow it turned out unsuccessful. I transformed it to acrylic painting. Recently I tried to use different plants for dyeing but I didn't aware it's no good on nylon.

Only very light stains I got. That's a very good experiment I learnt. I know now cotton or silk fabric are more appropriate for such dyeing or prints.

I don't want to waste the failed scarf. I transformed it to acylic painting.

This turned out to a bright and washable scarf.

Goes with my onion skins dyed nuno felt top ?!

My Mogi said "Mum, waste not, want not. We can make use of every piece. You made it and I love it !"
