I did nuno felt scarves with eco-print last week. Yesterday I tried another experiment of nuno felt top eco-print with shallot skins to make clearer patterns. Using the skills of onion skins dyepot the nuno felt top has the effect of graduated color. 這日我再嘗試做植物印染, 先做一件羊毛雪紡上衣後, 加上一些蔥頭外衣做花的圖案.
I made the nuno felt top with some merino wool only on the upper part . After fully felted and rinsed with vinegar water, I dipped the shoulder part into the onion dyepot, just soaked and squeezed immediately (my last post mentioned how to make onion skins dyepot) I left the lower part of chiffon clear without wool just to put the shallot skins on. This is a rather big shallot, I used it as it's smaller than onion. The peeled skin size is perfect as flower petals. I turned over the nuno felt top and placed the shallot skins and euc leaves in between.
So the shallot skins and leaves were sandwich in. I then put a plastic wrap (only use those heat resist in microwave) over the top and rolled it tightly. The wrap is to avoid color overlapping after rolled up. Bundled it and steamed in a cooker for 45-min then. Then power off and just left overnight. That came the look.

I embellished with glass beads on the flower patterns.
. This morning a lady after swimming with her dog approached me for a chat. She's impressed with the nuno felt top and amazed with its texture and seamless skills. She appreciated nowadays people like me still want to do something unique with hands. She's just being kind. Nuno felt is really the incorporation of ancient and modern craftsmanship. With little inspiration from others we can explore and share.
Thanks for stopping by.
Terrie this is beautiful!! I am so impressed with your nuno felting! I love the onion skin dyeing results too!
ReplyDeletebeautiful Terri and the beach is just amazing, I love the dog prints in the sand, its amazing what can be done with onion skins,, natural dyes ahve so much more soft color variations.
ReplyDeleteso gorgrous my friend. i would love to know how to Nuno felt. Is it very complicated? Must see if l can teach myself!!!!xxlove the beach shot. Oh! how l miss the beachxxlynda
ReplyDeleteThis is so very beautiful!! I can't wait to see what you do every weekend. I know I tell you all the time how talented you are, but it is very true. The lady you met on the beach is right...people now days do not take pride in craftsmanship like they did in years past. You are truly an inspiration to us all. Your shirt is GORGEOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteTerrie, the design is exquisitely organic! I am so impressed, the blouse is delicate, fashionable, and lovely. Your tutorial photos were very helpful in understanding how you completed the process, and I really loved the tiny detailed beading! Sometimes the littlest detail makes the biggest difference. The top is SO romantic! andrea @ townandprairie
ReplyDeleteAnother original and beautiful design! It is like you pull all your lovely ideas out of thin air and make them work into something unique and different. You can definitely walk down any street and know that no one else is wearing what you created with your own hands!
ReplyDeleteTerrie this is lovely, and your explanation of your process was great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelly, Laurie, Lynda, Farica, Andrea and Susanne. You all are so sweet for the comments. It's fun to try and explore. Nuno felt is a new skill, just some tricky. It's the marriage of silk and wool.
ReplyDeleteThank you for exploring and sharing with all of us. What a creative piece to add to your wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteI love this top, Terrie! I'm saving onion peels to try out some eco-dyeing myself. Where does the original, unfelted chiffon, top come from? Do you sew it? Or do you purchase it? Just curious. The umbre effect is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteRicochet, I made the top myself with the skill of nuno felt, i.e. putting some wool on a pure silk chiffon. Made it with a needle or sewing. It's seamless - one piece.
ReplyDeleteHey Terrie! I did receive your gorgeous bookmark...thought for sure I had left you a little note letting you know how delighted I am with it! I have it in my Bible and when I look at it everyday, I just love to feel its softness and think of you :)))
