Nuno felt with painting

Recently I learnt the basic acrylic painting. Indeed I hope to do my multi-media creations colorful.  Flowers and cats painting are what I like most  Mogi is my model ........

He helps me holding the chiffon while I do the painting (silly boy !!)
Yup, finished. That's the silk chiffon for a nuno felt scarf.  I use acrylic as it will not "bleeding" and ever last.

After the paint dried in 48 hours,  I put the merino wool along the edges and fringes on other sides as well a little mulberry silk and  Wenslaydale wool for the textures.
After rubbing, rolling and slightly moving action, a scarf is done.
He, who is a territorial occupant finds it his own !!
A scarf is a scarf for ladies, not for pets.

Wensleydale is good texture and little mulberry silk for lustrous

Nuno felt scarf with little wool is ideal for all seasons.
I painted it and made it from scratch.
I learn from basic and needs practice. It's fun to paint.  That's me in the kindergarten stage.........
At least he's the one appreciates it !!??
 Silly boy !!

Hiking 2015 started with the "Back Garden of Hong Kong - Sai Kung 西貢大浪西之行

Sai Kung Tai Long Wan with the Sharp Peak (蚺蛇尖) behind.

To escape from the hustle and bustle, what's more pleasant for me is hiking. Since last June I joined the hiking team for the every Friday outing, I enjoy so much our stunning scenery.  Hong Kong is small  but with steps away brilliant greenery. The vast land and sea area of the  Sai Kung Peninsula remains untouched by urbanisation.
Today we started the trail in Sai Kung - the "Back Garden" of Hong Kong,

Trail started from the Sai Wan Pagoda
Up and down the trail.....
along the mountain......
stepped the fine sand of the beach.....
We arrived the Tai Long Wan, ideal for campers...
The climbed up the hill to the other bay...
Gazing cows as free as us.....
Campers were already there last night
Crossed the wooden bridge leading to the other side of the bay
Cows sun bathing in the warm day
We're onwards along the coastal line
Abandoned village since people gone to the town for works and living some years ago.
Ruins with views inside out
The tranquility we can feel
No matter which direction, Hong Kong is a brilliant city with stunning views everywhere.

Nuno felt scarf of pomegranate dyed

I done experiment of pomegranate juice cold dye with silk chiffon.  Last post  shows quite nice pink-purple.  I tested color fastness by making a nuno felt scarf.
Put some eco dyed scraps with purple merino wool to seal the edge
After rubbing, rolling and fulling..... all done.  The pink chiffon base faded out to light purple !!
But the original pink habotai turned to purple.  See comparison the "before & after" images above.
Based on own experiment, thought dyes of pomegranate with soap changed pH due to alkaline and warm water.

Though not as what I wanted to get the original purple, it's an experiment to know cold dye of pomegranate.
If I do not do anything with this dyed chiffon, no wool felt, no press with iron, no wash with warm water..... the bright color stays longer.
Anyway it's a testing.

Rosy pinky cold dye -

To start the new year 2015 with soft landing - cold dye of pinky rose with pomegranate.  This  pinky chiffon was made with the easy and eco pomegranate dye.

Last March when I was in Tel Aviv I strolled along the promenade, there're stalls of fresh pomegranate press juice.
I bought one.  About one and half the fruit of a pomegranate to make a cup of the fresh juice, Sweet and tasty.
These days here the markets have many big and juicy imported pomegranates.  I tried the cold dye simply squeezed the seeds to get the red juice then mixed with little vinegar to dye the chiffon.
Fabric was soaked with diluted vinegar water.  First put the half length to soak the red dye then again the one third length into the dye for overnight soaking.  I done two pieces to see the outcome.
Mogi helped the lining.  Gradation from plain to purple.
Mogi found his haven
Dyes dispersed on this piece with marble pattern
This is accidentally effect from the dyes I soaked twice so dyes dispersed like marble
The long one with half the length gradation

He's napping and dreaming what to do next
Mogi, "what's mum's resolution this year?"
Mum, "playing with color, wool and travel are on my radar........."

Simple steps of pomegranate cold dye.
For my 3 yards of chiffon I squeeze one pomegranate seeds by hand, then mixe 4 spoon of vinegar.  Spraye silk chiffon with vinegar and put into the juice overnight.
Take it out but do not rinse out juice.  Better flat dry in air shade. If the fabric is boiled color becomes earthy.
This is my first time of cold dyed silk chiffon with pomegranate juice.  Thought that for this kind of dye will not last too long but I will do something of not frequent washing.  Will see how it will be........
