Woolly bag making 寒冬做暖袋

 

Can't believe we're into Feb still embracing the freezing days.  Normally after Chinese New Year it's spring but weather forecast we're below 9 C this week.  Really chilly for us in the sub-tropical region Hong Kong. My woolly bag made two years ago draws eye balls wherever I'm.   Actually I haven't taught open class this sort of bag before since the curly fleece is pricey so fee for learning is steep.  Also much water is needed,  indoor making will be a mess. I can only do in my open yard for private tutorial on special request.

踏入二月，已過立春，還是寒風刺骨，何不做個暖暖羊毛手袋，溫暖自己。

 Enthusiastic student Sammy came to my home studio right after work in a chilly weekday night.

  

We did from inside out.  We used my own natural printed fabric lining for strong backing. 

  

Wool layered on side A, then side B, both with fabric backing.

  

After 3 layers of Finn wool.....

  

Another layer of assorted raw fleece of Finn, Teeswater, Wensleydale, Romney.......

  

Started the rubbing, "rock n roll"......

  

Almost done in 3-4  hours.  

   

 A wild fleece woolly bag is completed with handles attached. Carrying it  just like cuddling a sheep.   If not warm enough.......

Fluffy Mogi said "Mum just made me the wild fleece bed sheet I'm warm enough, and you......?"

Friends stay warm, I can hear the steps of spring, not far away.

A simple hemp bag added little something to make it different.  Oh, all my felt matters !

Recently I ordered from World of Wool to replenish my stock for the upcoming handbag workshop.  Yesterday received the package with the complimentary hemp bag - "Bag for Life".  What a functional bag for me ! It came great as simply plain that I can do something with.

 

I found from stash my eco printed wool felt sheet done in Portugal Wool extravaganza and the cotton printed with leaves.

 

The original narrow leaves prints on the wool felt sheet are not bold but the silver dollar euc are fine, so I stitched along the narrow ones to make them clear.

 

Here finished after stitches on the wool felt sheet.  

 Making it a 3D texture touch, I purposely felted with little long raw fleece and the  brown Portugal local Bordeleira sheep as two wandering sheep in the field.   I hand stitched the felted sheet on one side of the hemp bag.

 

Stitched the magnet button and put on my own made ceramic sheep pin.

 

The other side I stitched the cotton print.  That's the leaves dipped in iron water and boiled.  The layout I intended to make a wood.   Thought the added embellishments to the bag makes a natural look.  All done in a few hours of my leisure weekend.

Natural print art book 手作小本子

 

The little art book I printed,  I made with my heart -  a keepsake for someone.

 

I made the leaf prints on the discarded conqueror letter heads by sandwich boiling for an hour.  After dried, made to 6 signatures.

 

Bound to an art book of 60 pages

 

Both front and bottom covers with smaller prints on used envelopes. 

The left piece, sort of euc leaves  covered with iron mordant fabric scrap thus has dark outline while the right one, dried oak leaf from the US, dipped in iron water thus has the charcoal print look.

 

This nuno felt piece is a demo sample I done in  the front of a class for the different silk fabrics texture effect.  

 

Size perfect to cover the signatures to make it an art book

Pages are mainly of rose leaves with others I picked behind my apartment. 

Intended to insert blank pages for writing.

 

Pages with prints are not bold for visible writing.

Treasure under 裙下小寶藏

 

From scratch to this little girl I made with the basic Paverpol -  fabric craft. I would say this is my new mixed media creation.

Pavepol與羊毛做成的混合媒體製作是我近期的人形布藝創作, 把羊毛與絲料做成質感裙子, Teeswater原羊毛做頭髮, 蜷曲自然,  小娃裙下有風光........

  

Paverpol is liquid which fabric is dipped and wrapped around wired skeleton to form a figurine. After dried it becomes harden.  My last post of making.

 

This time I made a smaller one.  The body wrapped with fabric and painted in white acrylic.  The nuno felt dress with strips and merino wool on the surface and black mulberry silk on the top. 

 

After a little time of rolling and fulling, the  nuno felt dress is done.  I put on the body.

 

I made the little book with my natural imprints and a cover with euc leaves.

The figurine is sitting on the top of a procelain egg shaped trinket box.

I like to make something decorative and  functional.  My friend gave me this little box.  Thought a doll sitting on it makes a nice pose.  That's why I made it.
