Happy Easter from Russian dolls

Weeks ago my niece J forwarded me the needle felt Russian dolls pic and asked if I could do it and wanted to learn. Although I’m not keen on needle felt such cute little things. I said I’d try after my girl’s wedding. The wedding just taken brilliantly last Sunday. The day before I spent a night to make these dolls. Just needle felted two balls and embellished. It's easy but a bit tired for the repeat motion of needle felt.
The pair riding in the brush.
These corsages of orchid for us the 4 parents ...... should have been worn in the wedding to match with the newlyweds. We forgot to put on. How absent minded ! The tray of 4 pieces are still on our table. Already over a week they are still very fresh.

It looks pretty to go with my pastel shawl.

My nieces J & V are not only my close relatives, they’re my friends, also my ex-colleagues. They’ve sense of crafts and talented. I’m happy to interact with them to drive my creation. I like my friends’ suggestions or ideas so that I can improve myself or further explore the versatility of wool.

Mogi not even a glance!

Wish J&V like it and Happy Easter. J&V

Final touch up of the shawl for the gown

I've made a nuno felt shawl to go with my gown on daughter's wedding. Last Sunday I put on for the fitting. It goes well. Thought if some glass beads embellished may have a sparkling look.
Just done.
This is a chiffon base shawl made with merino wool, gauze and mulberry silk.

Eco prints nuno felt shawl

Spring has sprung. Days are not that cold but still cool in the morning. I made a nuno felt shawl with leaves prints. Again eucalyptus leaves are my favourite. Front look above.Back look of the shawl with bold color and light green.

Look of the whole piece.

Steps of making :

1. Laid the merino wool over the chiffon base.

2. Wet it and done the rolling and fulling.

3. Put on the euc leaves.

4. Folded and laid the plastic wrap over it.

5. Bundled it and boiled for 30-min and stayed in a thermo pot overnight. Next morning I brought it to boil and kept in the thermo pot for a few more hours.

6. Unbundled and finished.

Comparison of before and after.

I used two sorts of eucalyptus leaves. I don't know what sort of these euc leaves I used. The bright brown/red ones bought from a florist and the narrow ones were windfalls.

See the fresh leaves gave bold and bright color.

Indeed I used again the ones of the same leaves on this shawl. The reused leaves gave green prints. They're out of my expection and I've no idea why. Eco prints are that strange and interesting!

I intended to lay wool on the upper part and fringes on the ends of the shawl as I know prints are bolder on wool side. So I put more the fresh leaves on the upper part, lower part only of chiffon I put the reused leaves.

So the effect is this - brighter on the upper. Just love the golden yellow outcome. I'm very impatient. Thought if I kept it for some more days the look of color will be different. I need to be more patient !

Nuno felt is soft and airy. Mogi finds it cozy and light !
